Damn straight. I wish everything was that easy! Foods a fab equalizer.
I am glad that Mario gave me their recipe (scaled down) for Dali’s Sangria. I’ve shared that many times amongst friends, and made gallons upon gallons of it for summer parties!
Yes, if only. Even if people enjoy different foods or cuisines…
I mean. We all gotzta eat
In my family, most birthdays are celebrated at a restaurant. But I do make an effort to prepare “fancy” dishes when I have people over.
Some of my favorites:
Brisket (2nd Ave Deli recipe)
My Grandma Pat’s Sunday Gravy
Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies
Pecan Pie
Roast Duck
My sweetie isn’t a fan of fish (don’t worry, he’s got a lot of other wonderful qualities and is an excellent cook in his own right). So I save that for when one of my besties is over. Bestie and I LOVE LOVE LOVE salmon and we switch up preparing it differently. Though my favorite is Scotch cured salmon from Zabar’s. That’s all for me
We should introduce your sweetie and mine to one another, as he’s not too keen on salmon, either (he’ll eat it, but he doesn’t LOVE it). And my bestie and yours must be related as well
We’ll have a big ole SALMON PARTAY!!!
I concur!
A salmon PARTAY sounds wonderful! The guys can eat steaks or burgers or whatever else they want. We can feast on sashimi, lox, smoked salmon, gravlax… you name it!
But I think we live in different parts of the world, sadly.
For me the ultimate celebratory meal starts with lobster ravioli with a lobster bisque sauce, and a bottle of Champagne. It’s great that Champagne is available in smaller formats than 750ml as I’m not a big drinker. I like to follow that with a stuffed beef filet accompanied by Pinot Noir. Dessert is a sweet soufflé.
I like a lobster salad with avocado, very lightly dressed. That is a festive dish for sure. Beef tenderloin, too. Prime rib.
I’d sit at your celebratory table any day
You’d be most welcome at my table!
It’s very rare for me to make a celebratory meal since my kids have emptied our nest; but when I have something good happen, I like to eat whatever in the hail I want. Gyros, ribs, fish sandwich, whatever hits me then and there.
Every Syrian/Lebanese place I’ve been to serves a wonderful hot sauce. Can I find a recipe? No I can’t. It must be bottled. Can I find a bottle - even in the Lebanese shops. No, I effing can’t. I have been using Maggi Chilli & Garlic Sauce which is South Asian, rather than Middle Eastern. Not right but not too far adrift.
Sunshine likes Steak, Baked Potato and Peas as her birthday meal (no deviation, ever).
And… homemade chocolate cake with chocolate icing for her birthday cake.
The Thai one I think was just their version of nam jim jaew, which is heavy on the cilantro and basically drinkable. I need to try and reverse-engineer.
The Syrian def had a red pepper base, but with orange juice and or zest, for sure, plus any number of seasonings and herbs. A really bright, very spicy/hot sauce that goes wonderfully with their grilled meats & seafood. I will make an effort to go back when we’re in Berlin next summer & have it again… maybe take some tasting notes
Thank you, that is very kind
