For future reference, it’s “loss leaders”. They are popular items priced at a point where the store does not make a profit. Their purpose is to encourage more customers to shop there, thereby recouping the loss via the rest of the items in their carts. Industry lingo refers to shoppers who buy little or nothing beyond the loss leaders as “barnacles”.
