I am part of the demographic that is just a little younger than the cast. I remember some of my female classmates in university being obsessed with watching every Friends episode when it first came out. Many of them got the Rachel haircut around 1994.
I went through a phase of watching most Melrose Place episodes around 1993. I never was into catching every episode of Cheers, Frasier, 90210, like some of my cohort.
I watched a fair amount of Sex in the City , and The Sopranos, around 1998-2000. I liked House a while after that.
Reptile with Benicio del Toro >swoon< and a surprisingly not terrible Justin Timberlake. Really great mystery thriller.
Started watching The Fall of the House of Usher. Could’ve done without the gratuitous, ‘edgy’ club scene (presumably how the US audience imagines Berghain in Berlin), but thoroughly enjoyed the ending of the second episode.
Back from a week NYC so naturally I had to (re)watch a few movies celebrating this wonderful city.
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three - masterful action movie from the 70s, suspenseful and funny, and wonderfully politically incorrect by modern standards
Hannah and her Sisters - probably my favourite Woody Allen movie. Delightful and funny.
I watched The Fall of the House of Usher and I keep wondering why I did. It’s pretty terrible despite having some truly excellent actors (I’m a big fan of T’Nia Miller and thought Mark Hamill was good fun. Rahul Kohli I also usually enjoy, but his storyline was hard to watch for me.) Poorly written and fancying itself as clever for the Poe references. I don’t think Carla Gugino is a compelling enough actor to carry a role that is fundamentally underwritten.
I mean, I stuck with it, but I really didn’t know why, or what this show brought to the world of Gothic Horror. (A friend of mine thinks Mike Flanagan was aiming for a Succession vibe, but YAWN.)
TBH I’m not particularly compelled to keep watching - so many other, better shows to check out (isn’t the new season of Fargo starting up soon?), and I thought it was cringey for the most part.
If you like that genre, I very much enjoyed Moloch and El Conde recently. The v/h/s movies are generally decent, but the shaky found footage style can be a bit exhausting for us old folks
Bosch: Legacy season 2 is out! That means one thing: I’ve started rewatching season 1… Just to draw out the anticipation of what will likely be another season of great tv. Highly recommended. It’s on amazon prime.
Just watched the last episode of Naked City, “Barefoot on a Bed of Coals.” A fitting sendoff with a superb group of guest stars – Dustin Hoffman, Steven Hill (the lead guest role), the intriguing Zohra Lampert, the omnipresent Henry Lascoe, and the mysterious Elizabeth Allen.
Overall an outstanding series with some surprisingly adult themes for the early 60s, as well as a strong regular cast and a who’s who of guests plucked from the Broadway stage in great part. Also the location shots are great for NYC lovers.
