I never got near banana squash since seeing the 1978 version.
the 1978 version is actually quite good. It’s metaphor is carrying a slightly different message than the red-scare 50’s version, and it’s actually quite creepy in parts, with one of the most famous closing shots of any horror. Worth watching, imho.
Mixology Masters on Tubi (in the US)
Canadian bartending competition from 2021-2022. Similar, but not quite as slick, as Netflix’s Drink Masters.
Only one season, but it’s 24 episodes. Low key vibe and some real pros among the contestants.
Nice rec. i enjoyed Drink Masters and hope they do another season.
3000 Years of Yearning!
“Chickpeas, cloves, and pistachios…they melt in your mouth”.
Maybe these?
Watched the fantastic sequel to Becky, The Wrath of Becky. Two movies every 13 yr old girl should watch
Linoleum with Jim Gaffigan (!) - really quite different & moving.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent with Nick Cage was entertaining.
We enjoyed The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem this week. Sort of an Israeli soap opera/drama jumping back and forth between the 1920s and the late 1930s. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_beauty_queen_of_jerusalem/s01
We watched The French Exit movie with Michelle Pfeiffer which I found tedious.
So, The Bear got a bit better for me after episode 3 when there was finally some actual FOOD, and it was nice to see the chef in Kopenhagen to be helpful (i.e. not a total BOD), but I’m still mostly annoyed by everyone yelling all TF time. Episode 6 (with a stellar supporting cast) was no different.
Is there something crawling on that ceiling?
It’s an Instagram reel (very short video) with someone dancing. It was what I was watching this morning. Not sure why sharing the reel doesn’t show the whole screen.
Craft in America on PBS. It is a fabulous series.
Thanks for this tip. Not at all what we expected, and we found ourselves feeling some feelings. Only wish more that more film scripts were as inventive and real in portraying a very human experience.
I was positively balling at the end, but my mom had dementia and recently passed, so it really hit hard for me.
My condolences, Natascha.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Well, I’ll be giving this one a pass for a bit. My mom is in the midst of it right now.
It sucks.
It sucks SO MUCH.
My heartfelt condolences.
I thought you were saying you’ve been staring at the ceiling!
too addicted to my phone for that
I’m sorry you have to deal with this. I was very far away for most of it (an ocean, a pandemic, a complicated relationship), which perhaps made it slightly easier.
Wishing you strength & much love as you move along.
