I liked The Italian job; I’m not sure if I have seen the original, but I will look for it. And of course, no mention of heist movies can go without mention of Ronin.
Oy, here we go then.
Thomas Crown Affair
Inception
Ocean’s 11 (& the rest, the last was the weakest for me)
Snatch, Lock Stock…
The Usual Suspects
The MIs are considered heist films on this Rotten Toms list… huh.

If you’re going back to that vintage and Michael Caine, can I also suggest “Zulu” as an action film. It’s actually my favourite film of all time.
It dramatizes the British Army action during which the most Victoria Cross awards have ever been awarded. I’ve been fortunate in being able to visit Rorke’s Drift in South Africa - the scene of the action.
That’s high praise, so I will make a note though I’m not big on war movies.
Yay!
I’m looking for THE BURNT ORANGE HERESY in Lake Como; I love Lake Como.
Ooh. Please share when you find it.
I’ve read some decent reviews of Berlin which is a heist series featuring some of the actors and characters in the Money Heist (Spanish I think). I believe it’s on Netflix.
I enjoyed Money Heist a lot, although I hated the professor. I’d heard about the spin-off as well.
We just started watching Jury Duty without any knowledge what it is about, and I almost peed my pants laughing at the second episode. What a wicked concept!
Also likely to start on Murder at the End of the World tonight - unless we pick a movie instead.
Finished the latest season of The Morning Show. Meh.
We loved Jury Duty! I hope Ronald Gladden is able to parlay the experience into something big. He was such a good sport about the whole thing throughout, and even after the big reveal, he seemed like such a nice guy that you want good things for him. Not like the hot felon from my hometown from several years ago. Once a douche, always a douche.
Can’t remember where I saw it but someone compared the new Criminal Record on Apple TV to line of Duty and going to definitely check it out. New show stars Cush Jumbo and Peter Capaldi, both actors I really like. Also will probably check out Death and other details with Mandy Patinkin. It’s on Hulu.
Hah! there is no overlap in our taste in TV. I love The Morning Show.
I liked it, but I thought the whole Paul Marks thing didn’t work. I liked the previous seasons better.
First, I love Jon Hamm. And I also think Jennifer Aniston does a really good job of being apparently easy to fool and yet not. I do miss Steve Carell, though.
Oh, I love Jon Hamm, too, but I didn’t buy his character as some Bezos/Musk clone. Maybe I just like him too much - although he certainly did a frighteningly good job playing a batshit crazy, misogynist wing nut on the latest Fargo season… it was stressful to watch some of the abusive scenes.
I breathlessly await the next episode, which we are gonna watch tonight! This is the first season of Fargo I’ve seen, and I think it’s terrific (and scary, and disturbing, as you say). But it’s got Stranger Things guy and Ted Lasso woman and Jennifer Jason Leigh! Who seems to be doing the same accent she did in The Hudsucker Proxy.
I recommend you watch the first 3 as well. Billy Bob Thornton in the first season is great, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons amazing in the second, and David Thewlis kinda steals the show entirely in the 3rd season.
I thought the 4th with Chris Rock (whose standup I like but he’s no actor), Jason Schwartzman , and Andrew Bird (again, great musician/songwriter, but not an actor by any stretch) was the weakest. The only saving grace was Jessie Buckley, and being introduced to Salvatore Esposito, who is brill in Gomorrah.
I will keep that on the back burner. Next up is True Detective.
Have you seen previous seasons or is this your first? The first episode was pretty excellent.
love a good heist movie (Lift isn’t one, i turned it off after 10 minutes. might as well have been written by A.I.). even a mediocre one usually keeps my interest.
any list of the genre should include Heat (peak cocaine-pacino or maybe see The Devil’s Advocate).
also Thief, which i believe was Mann’s first major picture?
Out of Sight
Inside Man
Kubrick’s The Killing
less talked about but very good – although maybe heist-adjacent – are No Sudden Move, Baby Driver and Panic Room
