What have you been watching lately? 2024 Edition

I loved Red Eye"

Great first episode. Trying to decide if The Perfect Couple will be good fluff or bad fluff. Going to check it out tonight.

The on-screen relationship between Addie and Moses is delightful and heartwarming. And it’s all the more remarkable that it comes across, since the pair did NOT have an equivalent real life elationship. Film is truly made in the edit.

Another argument against the auteur theory, I suppose.

Thanks for the rec on trying. We’re thoroughly enjoying it. Fun, humorous, good characters.

I’m so glad that you are enjoying it!

We watched the first three episodes last night. So I guess we thought it was good fluff. Rich people behaving badly in beautiful Nantucket - score!

Oh good. I’ve read the book, but only have a vague recollection of the plot. A reviewer called it a dumbed down White Lotus and I’m okay with that!

I’m coming down with a cold, so I’m looking forward to tonight’s dinner of take and bake pizza, wine, and the last three episodes! No thinking required…

Currently finishing the final 4 episodes of Evil. Hoping they get extended after all.

Things I have watched over the last couple weekends:

Sasquatch Sunset - The story of a family of sasquatches. Really.

Late Night With The Devil - In the pursuit of getting higher ratings, a television host makes some…poor choices.

Pig - Nicolas Cage is remarkably restrained in this character study of a former chef who loses his truffle pig. Of course I want to make most of the food in the movie.

Natty Knocks - We didn’t finish this. Horror movie with unlikeable characters who don’t get killed off nearly fast enough.

Juan Of The Dead - a scrappy zombie tale set in Cuba. This was fantastic!

Handling The Undead - Three families in Oslo come to terms with loved ones coming back to life. The pacing on this was glacial. I wanted to like this better.

Kiss of Death - Nic Cage is NOT restrained. He eats all the scenery in this crime thriller opposite David Caruso and Samuel Jackson (with an appearance by a very young Kathryn Erbe).

We were disappointed in Late Night With the Devil. The Norwegian flick looks interesting, tho!

Watched the first two episodes of The Perfect Couple and it’s decent. Lots of terrible people behaving badly. Nicole K needs to just stop with her quest to look 30 again, it’s distracting and kind of sad. Isabelle Adjani- same girl. Anyway I’ll continue onward and Bono’s daughter is doing a good job and I love Donna Lynne Champlain (so good in Crazy ex Girlfriend!) as a world weary detective from the mainland.

Rebel Ridge on Netflix. Satisfying good vs evil flick about racist police corruption in a small Southern town.

RIP James Earl Jones

One of the most recognizable and stentorian voices, and one that will, due to an agreement with Disney, live on more or less forever thanks to the magic of “A.I.” and the unkillable popularilty of Star Wars.

93 is a pretty good run for a kid who stuttered.

A Simple Favor with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, whom I first noticed in Up In The Air.

A nice, fluffy, mystery-com (?) for when you need your brainz to relax. I can’t remember a single movie Blake Lively may have been in, but she is certainly a stunning presence.

I really, really would love to take Anna Kendrick to an AYCE pasta dinner.
