What have you been watching lately? 2024 Edition

Anyone watching Ripley on Netflix? Curious to hear what people think…

Watched the first two epis of Feud. I enjoyed the first season; not sure about this one yet. I generally give most shows 3 epis to decide (unless I can’t get through the first one, e.g. Emily in Paris, or Miss Maisel, etc etc), so we’ll see how it goes. I think Hollander does a good Capote, but I don’t know if I care enough about any of the toothpicks to continue…

Office Space and Clerks are linked in my mind.

I’m looking forward to Fallout on Amazon Prime Video. As a fan of the games, it looks like they’ve really captured the feel. Walton Goggins alone as a ghoul should make it worth watching. Just a week away.

Word.

Paley is pretty sympathetic as you go forward.

Clerks is one of my favorite movies, with one of my favorite lines. It helps that I am well-familiar with the convenience store where it was shot.

There was a year in college when someone was watching it in our common room seemingly every week. Maybe more.

(Btw I’m going to assume you mean berzerker, and curse you because it’s taken me this many years to get that damn earworm out)

I don’t, because I don’t even know what that is!

We’re 5 episodes into Feud, and I’m not sure I can or want to finish. What a collection of revoltingly narcissistic, over-privileged, nasty bunch of white folks at their absolute worst. Lordt :astonished:

If Mrs. Pailey’s cancer is supposed to make me feel better about / sorry for her, eh…. although she may be the least horrible of the lot.

I’m ready to move on to something new.

i stuck with it, but can’t disagree with this critique. if you’ve watched the one with James Baldwin and Tru, essentially strolling through NYC all day conversing, then you’ve seen the best episode of the series. Baldwin’s understanding re: what power and impact Tru’s writing could actually have in the world was something I found inspiring (in this series, Baldwin is like the only adult in the room). i wish more episodes where like this one.

Yeah, I may watch that episode because I just lost interest in those ladies and the “feud”. Hollander is great at Truman and black and white ball was of some interest but haven’t had any desire to continue on except for Baldwin episode.

Watched Sugar last night, Colin Farrell playing a neo noir private detective in LA with lots of old film clips interspersed with the story. Every review I’ve read said there’s some big twist in the story so fingers crossed his somewhat odd behavior is not due to him being a vampire or space alien. Then I’ll be pissed.

I could not agree more. Good to know it’s only further downhill from here.

I’ve been sucked in by S1 of American Rust this week (on Prime, but a Showtime show).

Just started the new season of American Rust. I’d almost completely forgotten what happened in the first season (d’oh!), but there was a feeble attempt at a recap in the beginning.

Love Jeff Daniels. First two epis are promising.

Dipping into Ripley on Netflix.

Funnily enough, I rewatched the Talented Mr Ripley a couple of weeks ago.

Andrew Scott is very reminiscent of his Sherlock role / performance.

Read some reviews that were complementary but were puzzled by casting of Scott. Ripley in the book is 25 and I guess Andrew Scott is pushing 50. Damon and Paltrow were both in their 20’s when they made the very good movie.

Hoping this is a gift link . I’m on a treadmill… literally. Not really a show, but about a show
Larry David’s Rule Book for How (Not) to Live in Society

“Suppose you’re out at brunch and find yourself in a buffet line that a fellow diner does not appear to have noticed. He casually approaches with his plate and tries to serve himself. Do you A. join the hangry mob cursing him or B. rise to this man’s defense, because you can see that he’s holding a plate, which means he already waited in line and is now returning for another helping? If you’re Larry David, not only is the answer B. but the misunderstanding warrants, in your scratchy Brooklyn accent, a triumphant clarification: “That’s not how we do things here in America! We don’t wait for seconds! Never!””

I really need to rewatch the older seasons - we own most of them on DVD, but of course they’re all on demand now. The final season is pretty weak, save for a few moments.

It is indeed puzzling, especially if you have just seen babyfaced young Damon in the same role recently :joy:
