What do you get at Chinese take-out?

Ohhh those are beef sticks. And yeah, as @ratgirlagogo mentioned, I’d call them satay as well.

And er, to stay on topic. Usually Fujian fried rice (saucey kind with mushrooms, duck and chopped gai lan is the type I usually find) if I just want a plate. If with other things, usually Chinese wine with gai-lan for veggies or some sort of seafood tofu hot pot.

Yes I see satay on Indian and Thai menus here. I eat them as well. The Americanized Chinese places simply call them beef sticks, at the local nj places near me. Either way you name it, they are very tasty. They are good “munchie” food. Let me see if I have some of my own pics.

I’ll add wonton soup to my list and fried dumplings. I am a fan of thick noodle wonton soup. I know many people like very thin skins.

Beijing Beef
Orange Chicken
A shrimp dish that looks good on the menu

I rarely get Chinese take-out, but when I do it’s usually:

Twice-cooked pork
Szechuan chicken
Pot stickers

Ribs! I love Chinese restaurants ribs! Light on the bbq sauce!!

I don’t get Chinese take out where I live now because it’s shite.

When I get the chance while visiting, I like:

Salt and Pepper squid
deep fried wontons
ginger beef
BBQ pork
any kind of dim sum

There are some street carts in manhattan chinatown that sell various “street meat” sticks like that, there’s a grill kind of set up on the cart itself. Although, dunno if they’re beef or if there’s multiple choice

Adding poo poo platter…when I can find it on the menu…

When the restaurant has a liquor license, we have enjoyed some fun and interesting cocktails…tiki bar style.

For us it’s crab Rangoon, egg drop soup, combination lo mein and dried fried green beans. We don’t get Chinese take out very often because the the place we like the best is 30 minutes away from us on the east side of the SF Bay and we don’t get over there very often anymore.

Where is this magical restaurant that sells you cocktails to go?

When I was younger (a kid) we use to have drive in/thru liquor stores here in NJ. You would pull into a large garage and they would fill your trunk/car with whatever booze you wanted. Ah, the good ole’ days.

No ‘open container law’ where you live?

Although it has since changed, when I first started vacationing in Aruba (25 years ago) there were NO DUI or open container laws on the island. It was such a novelty…funny thing is it was illegal for a man to be topless off a the beach, so you could get pulled over for not wearing a shirt while driving a jeep, but not for the open beer in the cup holder!

We have two “formal” type Chinese restaurants by me and I enjoy going there because having alcohol with Chinese food is such a rarity. (outside of hibachi type places)

I grew up in Monmouth County, and I have no recollection of this phenomenon! I’ve seen drive-through liquor and ammo stores out west, in case driving drunk isn’t risky enough for you.

Well I grew up in Middlesex County, only 20 mins away, but we had two drive through liquor stores! (Edison to be exact)

Rest assured the beverage was well wrapped and enjoyed at home. No guns were involved during this transaction👍
