The barrel is 5 liters. Thanks for the leak info. I’ll report back on what we make and how the Campari works/effects things. I see the logic now of my position to start with Manhattan’s and then do negronis!
Fill the barrel with hot water. Do a few washes, then keep it filled with water and keep the bung out ( this is the only way to see if there are residual leaks) until it seals. If you get any leaks around the spigot, tap lightly with a rubber mallet to seat it deeper. Any leaks around the barrel heads should seal in time
Where did you get your barrel?
Its still so warm feels like spring
Picked up some new beers tonight. Goose Island Bourbon County, 35K from Against the Grain, RIco Sauvin from Against the Grain andHerr Kinski’s Blackberry Thougt Forms from Urban Family Brewing. This weekend is looking up.
Radeberger Pilsner, a Milesburg mule and a G&T.
I’ll have to check with DH…I know it was a seller on Amazon, just not sure which one.
A few shared beers with weekend lunches. Both delicious IPAs. The Noble was our favorite.
Way too much bourbon, waiting for wifey to get home. The stand out tonight was the Booker’s small batch 2015-03. Really tasty.
Now need to get dinner on the table
Tasted this stuff at work today. Gag. I don’t know who designed and brewed it but it is garbage. The brewmaster who wants to inflict this stuff on the world needs to go back to brewers school.
Two strong English ales tonight.
Happy hour was a Manhattan, made with rye and a heavy dose of angostura for some spicy winter flavors.
A couple of super-hoppy, strong IPAs.
Hopbot which is 7.1% and has a distinct citrus and grapefruit taste.
Lone Pine IPA at 6.5%, packed with American hops. It really does taste piney.
At my gig last night: a Nolet’s martini, a leftover Boulevardier my bassist didn’t like, and a couple of Bluecoat martinis.
'twas a good show
Just popped open a flip-top Grolsch.
Yesterday saw the initial run of barrel aged Manhattans go down for aging. Very excited to see how this transforms and to taste test along the way.
Next time if you can find it try Capano Antica Vermouth. Wonderful stuff. The BT is a fine bourbon for the task. The best part is you can add to the living barrel or bottle the results if you get too much barrel influence and start again.
Thanks. Yes, we have Antica and love it. But, for the first barrel test we decided to use a more economical bourbon and vermouth…at least until we learn and understand how fast the aging goes, effects the taste etc.
Enjoy the ride.
These came today.
I had a red IPA and DH had a hoppy Pilsner and then a DIPA. All very good. We also brought home a growler of the red IPA.
