Since I never met an allium I didn’t like, that sounds great to me. Anything besides the onion? Mayo, pepper, or…?
My mom used to eat onion and ketchup sandwiches. She blamed it on her depression-era upbringing.
I like onions on my sandwiches, but not as the main/only filling.
IIRC, the older friend (Tom) of the main character (Dave), introduced Dave to them while scrounging around in Dave’s family’s fridge. It’s a pretty short scene. The only other food reference in the book is the neighbor who gave Dave the cat used to think that cottage cheese was the cure for everything. Sad? Have some cottage cheese. Got a fever? Cottage cheese. Ecstatic? Celebrate with some cottage cheese.
Vine ripened tomato, if you’re lucky enough to have any. Otherwise just white sandwich bread, mayo, a little flake salt on the onions. Rumor has it some people like Miracle Whip. We are in the Duke’s camp.
Why do you want to ban burritos?
Mea culpa. I had forgotten there were boundaries to the conversation.
As we’ve already mentioned a Belgian sandwich upthread, can I throw in the Croque Boom Boom (or Boem Boem). A standard Croque Monsieur (nice enough in itself) with a serving of bolognaise sauce over the top. Delicious. You do need to use cutlery otherwise it is very messy to eat.
I havent had a Vidalia sandwich, but Ive made Vidalia onion pie. Sliced Vidalias cooked til soft then baked into a quiche-type base. Absolutely delicious.
It looks like the Belgians are flexible people and will allow tomato spaghetti sauce on their Croque Boem Boems, not just Bolognese. (Lol, I’m kind of kidding)
I want to try a Croque Boem Boem. I like that the Belgians and Portuguese take the Croques and make them their own.
I like Francesinhas.
I’m sure I’ve had it once in a restaurant in Ieper where it was a chili topping
I haven’t tried a Carrozza yet.

New food to add to my list.

There are 2 brunch restaurants in Toronto I know of that make an Asian take on a Croque.
One is a Vietnamese-inspired Croque at the Daily Grind

The other features bulgogi.
Floppy ‘bread’ is only acceptable to me in context, and the context here happens to be sandwiches.
Don’t care for wraps, don’t care for burritos. Love tacos as long as the tortilla is properly griddled and charred.
Wraps are just a lame sub for actual good bread, invented only for low-carb folk. Meh.
I seem to be experiencing severe déjà vu RN & could swear we’ve had an almost identical exchange fairly recently.
Upbringing. Leftover spag on white bread for breakfast in the morning, straight outta the fridge. He also likes cold pizza, but I won’t hold it against him
Oh, you need to. It’s lovely. A restaurant near home offers a cheffy version as a starter.
I know that we are not supposed to diss other folk’s food choices on the forum. But that sounds truly awful.
Will do.
Eh. Peeps like different things. Long as ya don’t force-feed me what I don’t like… more power to you
But you’d def have to force-feed me a cold spaghetti sammich
Do you also dislike sandwiches that are wrapped in pita or Laffa?
See my initial list.
I like Israeli sandwiches a lot.
Sabich on bread or in a laffa
Tunisian Tuna Sandwiches
Schnitzel in a laffa
Falafel in a laffa.
