What are your favorite or most comforting cooking smells?

When I was a kid, I absolutely required a slice of raw onion as an accompaniment (a chaser lol) to all of my meals, except maybe cold cereal, of course. Also demanded it if my parents took me out to eat (except for Chinese food - I was fine with that as is). I will try your suggestion!

My weird-ass sis ate raw onions like apples as a kid.

Uh oh. Maybe I’m your mystery sister from a galaxy far far away.

I just made no peek pork shoulders yesterday, but will only broth, salt and garlic to flavor the rice. 45 minutes in, you get the smell. I bask in that scent.

Clipped and into my Paprika app!!

I did, but it was mentioned in the same line as french fries and the odors from outside the cooking facility.
When the grocery store opens up their vents and that fried chicken smell comes blasting across the parking lot…

I’ll have to add the intoxicating aroma of toasted fennel seeds

Old fashioned Jewish deli

Lobster bisque cooking. Makes the whole house smell amazing! I serve it as a sauce with lobster ravioli. Lots of work, so I haven’t made it in years, perhaps a decade or more.

Oh, how could I forget chocolate baking!

I now live in Palm Coast, Florida. None here at all. So, I recently ordered from Katz’s!

Baking smells in general, but especially bread
Onion/garlic/shallots frying
All the Thanksgiving scents–it’s my favorite meal of the year!

Yes! My dad used to say - There’s always a way if you’re willing to pay! And this I have done - though it’s usually a gift for someone else. Perhaps I will treat myself….

Not a cooking smell per se, but the pungent aroma of nam jim jaew has taken over my fridge, and I don’t mind it one bit

Turkey and herbs cooking. Finally got our little turketta in the oven. She’s already browned, so once she hits 155F, she’s coming out to rest while I make some broccoli rabe in the drippings!
