What are you watching? (2026)

Yeah we had the same reaction to Shrinking. Found it predictable kind of corny and not funny. I feel bad because so many people love it and I keep thinking I should give it another chance.

I kinda enjoyed the first season, bc I would be the kind of therapist that Jason Segel played, id est too honest for my own or the patient’s good. In short: a bad therapist (but the most honest friend you’ll ever have :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:).

Second season was a non-starter. Too sweet, just like S2 of Ted Lasso.

Watched 2 episodes last night. Very bingable, but we were tired!

Anthony is amazing, and quick on his feet when it came to the “Miami ReLAtor” trying to retrieve his personal belonging

We’re a bit more than halfway through Young Sherlock on Amazon Prime, not to be confused with the much more fun and interesting 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes, which featured the stained glass knight, the first use of a fully digital character in a feature film.

The series is, instead, yet another entry into the endless wave of “fan fiction dressed up as prestige television” that is the hallmark of the streaming era. Find a well worn, generally liked IP that you happen to own (or is conveniently public domain) and give every character an unnecessary back story that somehow posits that every hero of every story was always “the chosen one” destined for greatness, as even as a wee babe they were enmeshed in some world altering plot that coincidentally had them cross paths with everyone they’d meet later on in cannon. See also: Enola Holmes, all the Tolkien-adjacent stuff, much of the Disney+ Star Wars material, etc.

And frankly, for a series with Guy Ritchie’s name on it, I expected that at least the action and fight scenes might be fun. They are, instead, extremely run-of-the-mill.

The whole thing feels like filler. It’s not so awful that we won’t finish the season, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re doing chores or similar and need something in the background.

We finished season 2 of American Gods and my partner officially bailed. I’ll finish the 3rd season on my own, simply to see how they handle the end and because Ian McShane is always fun to watch.

I just finished watching the season finale of Memory of a Killer on FOX/Hulu. I really enjoyed this series, and am glad that it was renewed for a second season.

Yeah, liked the first season of Ted Lasso, barely got through the second season and gave up on the third season. And now they’re coming back with a fourth season!

They Will Kill You (2026) - dir. Kirill Sokolov

Zazie Beat shoots her abusive father and goes to prison, leaving her sister in dad’s less-than-loving care. 10 years later, she’s out, and tracks sis to The Virgil, a hotel in NYC staffed by immortal devil worshippers. And Zazie is to be their sacrifice. Thankfully, she learned to kick ass in prison. She and sis have to make it out alive. Very stylish violence ensues.

That’s all the setup you should need to know if this is your thing or not. For horror/action lovers, this is a fun time. Inventive fight choreography, and a hearty helping of blood n guts. There’s a plot and such but you’re here for the ass kicking, and asses are, indeed, kicked, as well as shot, stabbed, folded, spindled, and mutilated.

3.5 out of 5 pig-headed demonic hell-lords.

One of my DCs likes Shrinking and I don’t. LOL Same with Lupin.

We started Marshals last night. My DC and I both like Luke Grimes.

What I am really enjoying is Mystery Road: Origin, and the one episode a week is making me feel like it’s the 1990s again.

Mark Coles Smith plays Detective Jay Swan.

I‘ve been spoiled by bingeing on entire seasons since I acquired Netflix and Prime over the past 6 years. I didn’t have any streaming before March 15, 2020. I barely watched TV from 2009-2020. I mostly went to the movies at a theatre, once or twice a week, from 2009-2020.

Richard Jenkins. One of my favorite actors. Amazing in Step Brothers.

YES! Not to stray from the topic, but Providence is a great city. We stop there often on our way to and from Cape Cod. He was one of the reasons we got curious about exploring the city.

I cannot bring myself to see any more Will Ferrell / John C Reilly movies. I sit there thinking, “Well, at least THEY seem to be having a good time.”

I have to admit that might be the only one I have seen. I am also the last person on Earth to never see Anchorman or Happy Gilmore or a lot of those films. But was at a party and Step Brothers was shown. I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it, but Richard Jenkins is a talented ‘straight man.’

No argument here! But gah, Talladega Nights was like the ninth circle of hell for me. I thought Anchorman was pretty funny, though.

Finished Company Retreat last night. I was a lil tipsy, so I don’t remember all the deets, but overall I thought Jury Duty was funnier.

Now to figure out what to watch next. I’ll probz finish SE of The Comeback on my own, since my dude isn’t interested.

He’s pretty funny in the RI-set Hall Pass, which is not a great movie but is worth one watch.

Yeah Step Brothers is mediocre imho but it did give us the Catalina Wine Mixer.

Anchorman is hilarious.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026) - dir. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, aka “Radio Silence”

2019 saw Grace (Samara Weaving) marrying into a wealthy family of Satanists, who had to try and kill her on her wedding night in a deadly game of hide and seek. She managed to survive ‘til dawn, which saw the family hilariously explode, one by one, like blood-filled balloons. That specific, gory POP has become a hallmark of the directing duo, showing up again in their hilarious ballerina vampire comedy Abigail (2024).

So it’s no surprise that we’re treated to a LOT more of the same on this sequel, which picks up exactly where its predecessor left off. Now Grace, along with her estranged sister, Faith, are to be hunted til dawn by SEVERAL Satanist families, including Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Hilarity, stabbing, shootings, etc ensue. The whole plot is ridiculous, a convoluted mess of exposition that matters not at all. You’re here for the blood explosions.

It’s fun enough, but opening a couple weeks after They Will Kill You, it suffers by comparison. The films are variations on the same concept, and They Will Kill You is better. But this is still an entertaining follow-up, Weaving is even better than in the first, and Gellar is a joy as she slips easily back into that rich bitch Cruel Intentions persona from way back when.

The original Ready or Not is currently on Hulu

3 out of 5 for the most obvious subtitle of any sequel, ever.
