What are you watching? (2026)

pairs nicely with the great Hearts of Darkness (1991) doc.

Titled The Enshittificator but it is work safe. It’s from the Norwegian Consumer Council. Good commentary on the online and life experience.

We watched this last night and also enjoyed it. I knew bad things were going to happen from the small amount of information I’d learned about the real-life story, but I didn’t know what, and the first one really took me by surprise. Also, the guy who played Eddie Vedder looks NOTHING like Eddie Vedder, according to me.

We’re about 4 epis into S2 of The Pitt, which is even more excellent than the first season. If anything, it demonstrates rather deftly what an absolute shit show burning dumpster fire health “care” is in this country. BRAVO for that.

Half an epi of Taskmaster S19.

We are all caught up with The Pitt, so now have to await new epis like normal people :frowning:

It remains brilliant, and I was struck by the keen sense of humanity and kindness that runs through it. The most recent episode was particularly moving.

If you are in the mood for observing the more…. unpleasant aspects of human behavior while also being greatly entertained, check out Neighbors on HBO Max. Each episode focuses on two spats between — you guessed it! — neighbors in various parts of this country. A lot of them seem to reside in Florida. No way! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The intro is perfection: zooming in from far out of space onto our little planet & its strange inhabitants, finally landing on whatever pairing is up for the day. The protagonists are mostly bat shit cray, and the level of pettiness, passive-aggression and downright nastiness is both flabbergasting and amusing. Former friends who fight over literal inches of lawn, survivalists out in the boonz at each other’s throats over a gate in the middle of nowhere, dudes accusing each other of stalking — all of whom seem entirely incapable of getting over themselves and realizing we’re all but specks of dust in the universe. What a way to waste one’s lifetime & energy.

One of the directors is Robert Redford’s grandson! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I haven’t seen that yet, but if you like it, you might also like Beef (not a documentary, though).

The Slap is also great, but it doesn’t seem to be streaming anywhere.

Oh, I’ve seen it & liked it. Not familiar with The Slap.

Will Gogol it.

There was an American remake, that’s streaming on the Roku Channel, which is free, but it’s not as good, natch. (Melissa George plays the same role as she did in the Australian original.)

The show I wish would come back to streaming so I could keep recommending it to everyone is The Bridge (Bron/Broen, the Swedish-Danish original, not the American remake).

So far this week been disappointed in Belfast heaven series (just getting too convoluted) and really disappointed in second season of Drops of Gods. Loved the first season, second season seems like it’s trying to figure out a storyline and so far not been very interesting. Did enjoy 4th season of Lincoln Lawyer and Bookish was “fun”ish. And actually liked the first two new episodes of Scrubs.

That’s the one I saw. I had nothing to compare it to, so I thought it was pretty great.

We saw the first one. It’s exactly the same!

Looks like it’s available on Apple and the YouTube. Given its age and my proclivity to forget ish I’ve watched :grimacing:, we may well have seen it. But at $2.99 (hopefully not per epi) it’s worth checking out!

Right, I meant for free on something you already subscribe to.

The choice last night was between the apparently excellent The Secret Agent and the probably terrible Jurassic Park Rebirth. We chose the latter

It was not as terrible as some of the other sequels, but still pretty damn bad. Filmed in England and Malta (!), most of the background was clearly CGI / AI, making it look like it was filmed in South America (Suriname), Hawaii, or Thailand. Dialog was BAD, and several scenes on the water seemed to be rather shamelessly taken right out of the reels of the OG Jaws movie. Plagiarism or homage? Apparently, Spielberg is still involved in these franchise afterbirths as executive producer.

But hey — we were just there for the dinosaurs, of which there were aplenty. We were disappointed that they were also just CGI. We’d hoped for real dinosaurs.

We also watched a few more epis of S2 Minx, which is fluffy and entertaining enough for a late evening nightcap. Viewer discretion advised: lotsa floppy peen :face_with_peeking_eye:

So… The Secret Agent last night, an international collaboration heaped with praise and awards in Cannes 2025. The lead actor is very cute & seemed familiar. I looked him up & it turns out he played Pablo Escobar in Narcos, in which I also thought he was cute :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

His cuteness didn’t quite carry the movie for me, though.

And not even one dinosaur

Laughed so hard that my coffee almost came out of my nose. Thanks for sharing.

We liked it, but we thought the main mystery was a bit of a letdown. It was just: here’s the mystery. There was no possible way to have guessed what was going on.

But it’s funny enough that we could let that slide.

There’s also Shorsey season 5 out now. A remarkably “small” set of stakes for this run. Probably a LOT funnier if you are actually 1) Canadian and 2) Hockey-literate
