What are you watching? - 2025

Love Tim Robinson. We took some edibles and rented Friendship for my birthday this year (and are likely to do the same on Thanksgiving), and Detroiters is an all time fave too. Mrs C pointed out while we were watching an episode of The Chair Company recently that there is something almost Lynchian about it—like, the kinds of characters you encounter in this show are not too far removed from some of the goofier supporting characters in Twin Peaks (the gangsters and insurance company employees in The Return, for instance), or even the diner or hit man scenes in Mulholland Drive. Somebody I follow on Bluesky pointed out how great the specificity of the line “I have the worst pillow in town” is—it’s somehow just funnier to dial it back to “in town” than to say “in the world.”

I watched all the seasons of tournament of champions this year and enjoyed it for the most part especially when I could fast forward thru Guy’s spiels. They have some really good chefs participating although I’m not sure how recently some of those chefs have actually cooked-there is a big tv show circuit that the same chefs seem to pop up on. Anyway I’ll check out holiday show.

Down Cemetery Road is a bit of a convoluted mess and I find motivation of some of the main characters strange. Also took 5 episodes to get to the very confusing reason for all the violence and subterfuge. It’s no slow Horses. Looking forward to new season of Man on the Inside on Netflix. I need some light but interesting mysteries right now.

We finished the season last night. I wasn’t exactly disappointed in the ending, but I found it less believable than is usual for the show. And now I’m worried my favorite villain ladies are gone forever!

Which part?

The press conference with dramatic broadcasted cell phone call.

Oh, right! Hahaha, I already forgot about that. I was too distracted by Alex’s horrible relationship with her dad.

I haven’t watched The Chair Company yet but LOVE ITYL and Detroiters.

Then this should be equally enjoyable for you. It’s bonkerz. Like, completely.

I guess I am a real history nerd, but I am enjoying the Ken Burns The American Revolution series.

Not sure why but this seems to be more dry/‘boring’(?) than Burns’ usual work. My wife keeps falling asleep so we haven’t gotten very far into it. Is it just us?

It is dry, and I think one of the reasons is that since there is no pictures from that era, they had to rely on paintings, landscapes and some rein actors…AND the fact that it was a pretty long war found on many battle fronts.

Rick Atkinson who is one of the commentators on the film has his own 2 books of a trilogy out…it is also good but very dry reading. What did impress me though with the books is how many times the rebels were beaten, and how close Washington came to getting. his butt kicked entirely during those years and battles.

Still an epic tale.

It’s Peter Coyote. Love him, but his voice is so smooth and soothing, I could zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Glad you shared this. I have been nodding off during The American Revolution too. Or, more accurately, my eyes close though I’m still listening. Something about the cadence of the narration lulls me almost to sleep. The subject matter is engaging so I haven’t dropped into a full slumber. So far.

Last night was a rewatch to get us in the autumnal mood (though it looks like snow outside): Fantastic Mr Fox, very close to my favorite Wes Anderson and favorite Roald Dahl book.

It was followed by the Peanuts Thanksgiving special, which is … fine. Did you know there have been over 50 Peanuts specials? I sure didn’t, and was surprised how many of the ones from my era I have no memory of. Like, It’s Arbor Day, Charlie Brown. I guess I probably saw it. Can’t imagine why it wasn’t rerun every year. It looks like a lot of them are on Apple TV, so … oh, I’m going to end up watching them, aren’t I.

Double feature again last night. First up, Delivery Run, which brought back memories of my own food delivery career — well, somewhat. I never did have a maniacal Mr. Plow follow me everywhere trying to kill me

It’s set in the depth of a MN winter, which was the main reason my darling PIC chose it: he absolutely adores winter movies. I can see the allure, being all wrapped up in a cozy blanket with kittehs and creature comforts in hand’s reach while almost feeling the icy blast emanating from the screen. Almost

Second up was Caught Stealing, the latest Darren Aronofsky flick set in late 90s NYC. It’s a funny caper movie with a great cast including Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, and Matt Smith, and a brilliant cameo of Liev Schreiber as a pretty unorthodox orthodox Jew. He is absolutely hilarious in this. Bad Bunny also plays one of the shady characters. I didn’t recognize him bc I am old.

This was the better movie of the two, for sure.

I’m enjoying The Last Frontier on Apple TV. It’s from the creator of The Blacklist, which was great for the first couple of seasons, but overstayed it’s welcome by 8 years
The latest episode (#8) had a major twist, that I didn’t see coming, and changed how I viewed some of the characters.

No.

Gonna watch this when it’s free. It was filmed not far from where I live, and I walked by (okay, through) the sets more than once.

We felt like a splurge and forked over the $5.99. Still cheaper than going to the movies.
