My dude loves quoting that scene

Does he have that special inhaler?!?!?

No, but he pretends he does.

rewatched Fargo (1996). the Blank Check podcast is going through the filmography of the Coens, so it seemed appropriate to get in a re-watch. a bonus that it was available at the library (Hoopla). one of the rare perfect films. i was all-in when it first came out as half my family, comes from, or resides in Minnesota.

One of the best movies. I also loved No Country for Old Men, similarly. Nobody uses silent time better than the Coen bros.

An all-time fave. If I stumble upon it, I have to watch it to the end. We own most of the Coen Bros’ movies on DVD.

Ha! DVDs.

Also, the new South Park season does not disappoint.

I think Blue Velvet is the film where Lynch manages to find the perfect balance of mainstream accessibility and those special Lynch-ian qualities that can be a barrier to some folks.

It’s not necessarily his best (though it certainly has its advocates), but it’s the film where he really got a handle how to make a studio film and still make art.

And it introduced him to Laura Dern, and boy, did those two people just get one another. In every interview I’ve ever seen of him, bring up Dern and his face just lights up.

Superman. Absolutely forgettable. Not as horrible as the Jurassic movie, but had a similar effect. I just couldn’t find anything to care about with any of the characters. Bored, bored, bored. Good special effects, though.

We’re all enjoying The Phoenician Scheme (and we know we’re in the minority on this thread). I like Wes Anderson. I like his framing, his color schemes, the actors he employs, and the unpredictable nature of his scripts. This one’s too long, though, so we had to stop 3/4 of the way through. We’ll finish up tomorrow.

Agatha Christie ~ Sad Cypress. I like most of her books/movies but this is one of her better endings. And someone in this movie moved on to Downton Abbey.

Watched the series finale of Resident Alien, which was almost insufferably sentimental. Speeches & voiceovers full of tired platitudes about love and the goodness of humanity.

‘scuse me while I kiss the sky

It had a good run.

Another very enjoyable Taskmaster season finished, and we checked out the first episode of Twisted Metal we didn’t hate.

Agree. I had no idea that DEVO was as misunderstood as they were. Their message, actually a serious one under all that performance art, rings true today. Here’s a recent interview with the Mothersbaugh brothers that I thought was fun to read.
