Going to miss that collection of great whacky characters. Baby Billy needs a spin-off stat!
That was entertaining.
I didn’t think it was a twist. It was so openly set up in the early dialogue and in the fact her makeup stayed on in the shower.
It was good fun and well acted.
We started the German series Krank Berlin, which is set in an ER & therefore fairly similar to The Pitt.
So far, so good.
the new season (UK) of Taskmaster just started and for this season they are releasing full episodes on YouTube in the US the day after airing. i can’t recall if they’ve had a US comedian on before (don’t think so?), but this season has Jason Mantzoukas on the panel. should make for good hijinks.
Fantastic news! I remember someone (you, perhaps) recommending it and watching the very first episode ever, “Melon Buffet” by myself when my PIC was out of town. I laughed so hard I watched it again with him, and we’ve seen every season since.
Americans have been on before (like Desiree Burch) but typically they’ve been the Americans who live and work in the UK. Mantzoukas is the first US based American (to my knowledge) and really wanted to be on TM. I was leery at first (Americans who are not UK based can bring some intense-- too intense-- energy to proceedings) but he was good fun. Fatiha El-Gorri has really skyrocketed and for good reason and Matthew Baynton is going to be good fun (it’s going to be interesting to have at least two comic character actors on the show-- him and JM). I don’t know Rosie very well nor Stevie, but I’m looking forward to getting to know them better.
It’s a good mix. I think it’s going to be hard to reach the heights of last series and but I also felt that way about S17 (that it would be as ridiculously hilarious as S16) but I loved it all the same. I love so much about the show. (And yes, I can very much nerd out over this and have done for so long; I realised when listening to Taskmaster: The People’s Podcast, for all my post episode stats that I was like a sport fan. I suddenly understood sport fans.)
feel the same. i’m a bit of a diehard when it comes to this show. for those unaware, there are AU and NZ versions of the show as well. don’t reach the heights of the UK version for me, but well worth a watch if you’ve burned through all the UK series. the one US season didn’t work at all (skip it).
I have a real fondness for After Hours as well. I saw it in High School was shocked many years later when I discovered it was a Scorcese film.
I didn’t make it through season 1 before I gave up.
Watched the Four Seasons. Seeing Will Forte in a non-comedic role is weird. It was fine for middle age dramedy.
The beauty of different taste in stuff
Maybe I would’ve liked After Hours more if I watched it in HS, too
My older sister introduced it to me, so maybe that contributed to the feeling that I was seeing something forbidden(?) or being hipped to something cool for my age…I realized now that I might not have even been a Freshman when I saw it…
We started that one yesterday. So far, so good.
Before that, we watched two episodes of Your Friends and Neighbors with Jon Hamm & Amanda Peet. Fun.
Has anyone else watched (or tried to watch) the various Evan Funke pasta videos on YouTube?
I know he’s supposed to be this super knowledgeable pasta guy, who swears by old school ‘pasta granny’ methods.
But good lord, he is absolutely INSUFFERABLE to listen to. Everything he says is a pronouncement from God Almighty. You use a MACHINE to knead your dough? Your pasta is crap. Using a pasta roller instead of a rolling pin? You suck, your pasta sucks, and no one should ever eat anything you cook.
He may very well be 100% correct that hand kneading incorporates air into the dough differently and affects the texture of the pasta. Maybe using a rolling pin lines up the gluten differently than my roller. But even IF those things are true, they are affecting the very EDGES of detectable difference. And they certainly aren’t worth a dismissive lecture from some guy that treats what is clearly a lifetime of study like it’s a practice you could pick up if only you weren’t such a lazy slob.
Am I alone in this opinion? Have I simply watched the ‘wrong’ videos of his? Maybe he’s actually a super nice, generous, kind teacher and he’s putting on an asshole persona al’ Gordon Ramsey?
Because as of now, seeing him featured in any video is an automatic pass.
thanks for the info. on what i can add to my AVOID list.
i just watched a video of Boulud making steak au poivre. his method is very labour intensive and he has access to ingredients and equipment that home chefs typically do not. he cheerfully acknowledges this in his instruction and always communicates how it’s okay to do it in other ways. it’s a lovely video to watch and definitely the style i prefer.
As always, late to the party. I’m watching The White Lotus, The Righteous Gemstones (what is it with all the male genitalia on these two?), Hacks (I was surprised to see I hadn’t watched season 3) and The Pitt, which I wasn’t going to watch because I’m not a fan of Noah Wyle but I 'm enjoying it a lot.
My brother worked on that one.
Just went on my list!
We started Darkest Miriam with Britt Lower of Severance fame — mostly because that’s my sister’s name — a Canuck production that started off quirky enough but soon became a little too weird for us, so we stopped
Still looking forward to when we finally start the S2 of Severance.
Watched more of The Four Seasons, which I very much enjoy. I think it is well-written and acted all around (ok, maybe except for the Italian dude — he’s pretty bad), and I’m almost sad we only have 3 episodes of it left.
