Not actually reading, but I got a āMurdleā murder mystery logic puzzle book as my secret Santa present. It didnāt take me long to work through the initial set of 5 puzzles but they will get harder along the way.
Just finished whipping my way through the Cash Blackbear series by Marcie R. Rendon. Loved them. Fantastic character.
Now halfway through Murder in Constantinople by A.E. Goldin, a historical mystery about a young Jewish man in 1854 London. Excellent!
a āMurdleā murder mystery logic puzzle book
Just put that on a wishlist!
Iām going back and forth between these two
And
My 11-year-old got Murdle as a stocking stuffer this year and he is tearing through it. He is loving it.
I just picked up The Proving Ground, Michael Connellyās latest Lincoln lawyer and Silent Bones, Val McDermidās newest Karen Pirie from the library. Iām happy.
I saw there was a Murdle Jr, but I donāt know if it was published yet. Any thoughts about regular Murdle and the average pre-teen?
I just finished Miranda Julyās short story collection:
Very strange and very engrossing. I still love All Fours more.
On the back burner is this Claire Messud novel, which Iām having trouble getting invested in. This oneās semi biographical:
I really enjoyed her other novels, however, so I might push through. I also have a hardcover of her novel āThe Last Life,ā which is very good but slow going ā I canāt read it in the dark.
Next up on Kindle:
Really, really interesting stuff.
Donāt know about Murdle, Jr. I get the feeling my 11-year-old wouldāve flown through it given the way he has with regular Murdle. But heās smarter than your average bear (or at least smarter than mom and dad combined).
Murdle starts off fairly simple and gently progresses to higher difficulty. There are hints.
Currently reading āOne day everyone will have always been against thisā by Omar El Akkad.
Really well written but I canāt discuss content here as it is a political commentary.
I would 100% read that, but Iām sure it would just make me want to die. More.
Hah, if youāre reading this before sleep, your dreams may get a wee bit effected. This critter played an interesting part in the dreamscape last night:
Just finished SJ Rozanās latest Lydia Chin and Bill Smith mystery, First Do No Harm. Excellent as always with a lighter tone than usual.
Recently finished the latest Osman book. As engaging and witty as the previous Murder Club books.
Iām looking at a pile of crime novels which will be coming to Tenerife with us in a short while. Three weeks dossing about where we will walk more than usual, read more, eat more, sleep more
Sounds like the perfect vacay to me ![]()
Thanks so much for mentioning Val McDermid. I wasnāt familiar with her (Iām often late to the party) but I lucked out and got the latest Karen Pirie from the library and am completely entranced. Itās exciting to know that I have so many of her books to read!
I thought this was great.
Whilst Iām a McDermid fan and, in particular, the Karen Pirie series, I made the mistake of watching the TV series. It is, IMO, a poor set-up and poor casting. I think Pirieās rank is lower in the TV than the book and it just feels wrong that a sergeant would have such responsibility. And, second, the actor also seems young for the role. Thereās a lack of credibility which detracted from the story for me.
Put the Allie Burns books on your list. Both ā1979ā and ā1989ā have good stories and capture the times well
