Same. I was 12 when the book was published, the movie came out shortly thereafter. How that somehow increased the number of heroin addicts in Germany that year is beyond me (a drug I’ve never been interested in the least).

It seems for better or worse, the Grateful Dead took the mantle of Haight Ashbury into the 70s and beyond but still a lot of treasure there apart from them. And yeah the Airplane has a lot of good records by my count in my collection. I also like their Surrealistic Pillow, Volunteers and Crown of Creation.
I’m always reminding some of my friends of the cool early Steve Miller Band Stuff, pre-Steve Perry Journey (yes a Santana/Steve Miller spin off band), to say nothing of the earlier groups Quicksilver, Flamin’ Groovies, Big Brother and the Holding Co and seriously huge acts like Sly, CCR and more… rock on!
