Dvorak’s eighth symphony.
I don’t know all of her songs well, but this one I picked up from Ken Burns’ excellent documentary on Vietnam.
that’s a cool one i like it
This is one of my favorite of her albums but she’s got so much range and variety
I’m about 6 hours away from disco but the party will be started !
My favorites are Donna Summer and Kool and the Gang
Thanks - found this album on spotify.
In (Northern) Europe summer is over now unfortunately…
Love her annoyance with the mic (BTDT), and she is absolutely one of the greatest.
very reasonable case to be made that the top musical artists of the 20th century are:
Bessie Smith
Billie Holiday
Nina Simone
Can’t leave out Ella, tho.
There’s a ton of gorgeous vocal work in Duke Ellington’s ouvre…i know mahalia jackson gets fair credit for the black brown and beige stuff but that’s some of the creme de la creme for me too
Duke Ellington - The Beautiful Indians “Mennehana” - YouTube
can’t really have a list of goats and not include ellington…but i like an all woman team too and no issues whatsoever with bessie, billie, ella and nina…
i received a cool old alberta hunter record recently from the black swan label…that’s 100 years old and she had a nice little career herself…two careers!
Great composer and piano player too. She’s my friends dads favorite. She’s on a lot at their house ! Zero complaints.
Probably should add Patsy Cline to that.
Ditto on Ella…
Personally I am more into jazz and blues than country but she’s a giant no question.
A lot of her catalog didnt really have a country sound, but that’s what it gets classified under.
The sound of her voice can make you ache.
