good one.
maybe ull agree a similar kind of vibe but i like this better
theres some talk of the strokes ripping off american girl for one of their songs (last nite)…im not really offended…still this is good
Thing is, any band after say the year 2000, like The Strokes, it’s difficult to not be influenced by what has happened before. When U2 started out, they were still part of a blossoming music history, but The Strokes had so much to be inspired by, from pop to dance, from grunge to rap.
That’s also what I’m hearing now when listening to The Strokes, something that didn’t occur to me at the time when their debut came out. The Strokes’s songs are very poppy, like if a pop producer would make a rock song. It’s very ‘polished’. Add the fact that they are all rich kids, with links to the fashion industry, and one can understand why they don’t have a lot of street credibility and will always attract some criticism.
Fact remains that they made some great songs though… If anything people always likened them to The Ramones, or at least them being their main source of inspiration.
My pal, the U2 fanboy (and frontman of his rock group) says this after i send him that same guardian article: the strokes are a bunch of rich kid dilettantes. their biggest legacy is inventing dressing up like 70s Lou Reed… [ill spare you the rest lol]
Haha, lol… Yeah, of course The Strokes are a very one dimensional band versus U2.
U2 are in a completely different league.
Your pal, what’s his favourite U2 album?
He says
achtung baby: (1) not a single bum track and flawless sequencing; (2) maybe one of the last great analog albums before pro tools; (3) still sounds like the future
I say they were already done by then lol
+1
I fucking with U2 fans !
More than likely he will be a fan of these guys as well. They have been one my favourite bands ever, listened to this album countless times even back in the 80s, and still listen to their music to this day.
he def likes simple minds ! ill ask him
Answer is too idiosyncratic for him haha
More good hot takes on the strokes
Strokes r one of most overrated bands from that early 00s time period. Pretty basic rock recorded low fi. The only “interesting“ aspect was the low fi production! But Y is that interesting in 00s? It wasn’t!
best of those brooklyn bands from 00s were Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio, and Interpol.
this is my favorite who album…kinda tracks what i like from the kinks too maybe
keith moon could do it all
