Ms. Ronstadt’s career has been an evolving monument to seeing and learning from genius and trying to live up to it:
This could go on for a long time . . .
I love her “Blue Bayou”.
Her taste is impeccable.
You all really bring it, thank you.
When I was young and stupid, I really didn’t care for Linda Ronstadt. Now that I’m older and wiser (?), I’m amazed at how much better her old stuff got over time!
A turning point was her trying out Gilbert & Sullivan and then Gershwin [!]:
When Nelson Riddle is on your side, well, it’s the real deal.
Long way from Stone Poneys to be sure, and still even more to come . . .
Putting it way way way over the top:
I enjoyed her ‘Blue Bayou’ on The Muppet Show with the frogs in the background.
I saw her and a certain politician in a hot tub in Tassajara once. Cozy!
Yesterday I heard, for the first time, a cover of Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight sung by J Hud. I’d never heard her sing before. Brought tears to my eyes. What pipes!
