What are you baking? November 2024

I was a bit over excited about having trick or treaters in my new place, after apartment living for 20+ years… so overpurchased! Have a lot of chocolate left over, so I made candy bar blondies https://joythebaker.com/2020/10/candy-bar-blondies/. Some chopped up twix, kit kat and oh henry bars went into this… will take to new office tomorrow, hope that it goes over well!

We had very few trick or treaters due to rain maybe? Had to freeze a lot of candy. A group of four came to the door, as I was adding candy to his bag, one little boy was sniffing the air and asked what I was cooking. I told him Chicken/Rice Soup. He said, “that sounds good, can we come in and have some?” What kid ever wants soup over candy? This was an odd Halloween.

Raw Apple Cake

Make it every year. It has 4 cups of apples, so very moist and doesn’t keep well, but it doesn’t last long either.

I think that’s really sweet he preferred soup to sweets!

Lemon buttermilk muffins for my nephew, with my nephew. It’s fun to bake (and cook) with him!

Nice crumb, and very lemony with fresh lemons off the tree  — going to intensify even more tomorrow.

He has requested only full batches going forward!

First time using white miso in a cookie dough and while it’s only 2 T it does contribute to the chew and salty sweet kick. Keeper ingredient.

I told him it was still cooking, but I was a little alarmed that parents send their children out trick or treating and don’t tell them not to go into a stranger’s home. One of the little kids in the back piped up and said “our parents won’t care!” I wouldn’t be too sure about that.

Ok. It’s a stress baking kind of day. Anyone have ideas?

Right now my two thoughts are chocolate and bread.

I came very close to making brownies, but am even too stressed for that.

Also suddenly wondering if I will even be able to eat at all.

I’ve decided I’m not going to watch or read any news today, too nerve wracking.

Just wake me up when it’s all over!

Too hard

Make a Japanese milk bread, divide into rolls/buns, put a hunk of TJ’s chocolate inside, rise and bake. The kids would likely be very happy with an inauthentic version!
