I needed some bread to go with dinner tonight, so I baked a small loaf. Sunshine and I tasted, it was OK. It will work as a nice side to go with the leftover soup I’m serving tonight.

Pistachio-chocolate cookies, which I augmented with some Italian pistachio cream I bought at Home Goods awhile back in the middle of the cookie dough ball. Soft and chewy, and pretty good, although not as pistachioey as I had hoped.

But the pistachio cream on its own? Pure freaking heaven!

just an update: this was a fail. It was super moist to the point where it fell apart into several pieces as I tried to remove it from the loaf pan. The flavor was fine but I wasn’t impressed enough to be interested in trying it again.

Smitten Kitchen’s Ultimate Banana Bread is currently baking in the oven. I had a bunch of super-ripe bananas to use. I wasn’t much impressed the first time around but I’m trying it again. The scavengers at work will eat it when I leave it in the faculty room in the morning.

Popovers this morning, a dozen minis.
They were filled with this morning’s ricotta , blackberries and a little rhubarb compote.

Ohhh! You have locusts at work, too?

I got bored this morning, so I baked a Pineapple Cobbler. Thank goodness Sunshine has a never-ending sweet tooth.

Was the lemon cake that went to “Girls Night” appreciated?

Yes… Everyone liked it. It was a big hit with the ladies.

I’ll type up my “experimental” recipe and add it to my binder (for future use) after I try one more adjustment. I’m 95% happy with the recipe, but I want to try a slight modification before it gets finalized.

when I saw The Perfect Loaf (James Beard Award Winner 2023) at half price at Home Senses I just had to buy it. This is my first attempt making the Simple Sourdough. There are many steps starting in an evening and then mixing the bread the next day and letting is rest overnight in the fridge and baking it the next day. I was overwhelmed with the instructions but every step is clearly explained. I know what I will do differently next time. Not bad for the first attempt.
