I haven’t but can’t see why that wouldn’t be good since there is only cocoa in the cake and no melted chocolate. Probably could skip frosting the cake, I only have one of her books, not sure which one ![]()
BTW, I don’t really have a favorite, it seems that chocolate cake and their degree of intensity plus texture of crumb , is a very personal choice.
Who knew chocolate cake could be so polarizing
!
What your preferred frosting, if any?
One that most people wouldn’t prefer !
It’s a Sour Cream Ganache with some Lyles Golden Syrup and vanilla.
RLB has one as does Helen Evans Brown , possible the originator of that style.
Does anyone have one of these. Because I just can’t cut a straight slice. Just wondering if they are worth it.
No, but another HO recommended a much simpler, adjustable-width bread slicing guide. Amazon has for 20 - 30 dollars (I still haven’t added to my cart). Maybe try one of those before springing for the 200 dollar machine?
Again with Louisa Weiss’s Kirschkuchen. Full size. This time I used a mix of both early and late-season cherries. I would have also mixed in some sweet cherries, but I couldn’t find them in the freezer. I know they’re in there somewhere!
if you get around to it, would love to see a slice shot ![]()
Here you go!
On the left, you can see where I stuck the probe in to teste the bake.
ETA: This is often referred to as a “sunken” cherry cake. I don’t toss the fruit in any flour, and some sink, but the topping compensates.
Found the recipe instructions online:
Cocoa Yogurt Cake with Cocoa Glaze / Yossy Arefi
Ok folks, this coffee and cardamom situation is really delicious. The thin glaze adds a little unexpected crunch that is also making me very happy.
Must give away or freeze!
That glaze looks just perfect for that cake!
I have this book, but I’ve never made this. And I have a huge bag of sour cherries in the freezer…
The recipe halves easily, if that’s any incentive.
Looks soooo good!
Weiss has a number of sour cherry recipes in there!
DH loves these. Every time I give him one he tells me how much he loves them. Now go figure, I bake lots of cookies and he likes them all but these are the ones for him, I think.
Chocolate Sourdough Discard Loaf. A loaf like we have never had before. Its tangy, sweet and salty. The chocolate aroma in the house was divine. Easy to put together, just1 rise, and no foldovers. It was so good with afternoon tea. Recipe is from www.pantrymama.com
This looks and sounds amazing.
