What are You Baking? March 2024

Thank you! :pray:t3:
I’m okay with those measures. I’ll give this a try as soon as I have the energy; not been baking much in the last year, but hopefully soon. Those scones look amazing! I have vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt, so that’s what I’ll use.

That yogurt should work, with an added Tablespoon of orange marmalade. Enjoy!

Image of what I use - a 6 oz/170 gram container of Yoplait original orange crème flavor yogurt.

Helpful, thanks!

The trend in “easy” or “homey” cake cookbooks continues, with Dorie announcing her next book is in that same vein. Working title: “Kitchen Cakes.”

It was still distinct cubes when thawed, but did get pretty jammy in the oven. I wouldn’t like it if it stayed too firm, so that works for me.

Bet its going to be excellent

Are there many cakes made elsewher, though? That’s what I thought when I read her announcement, anyway.

At least she isn’t calling it “snickety-snackety bake-ups” or something.

Are you ever! What’s the pie plan ?

Cocoa Brownies inspired by @rstuart ’s post. From Snackable bakes. As always with cocoa, I used half black coca and half Valrhona.

I have an entire bag of black cocoa I purchased to make a marble rye. Other than that, I’ve never used it. You must like it. Mixing with Valrhona would be a good way for me to use mine up. What do you feel it adds in a 50/50 mix such as in your brownies?

I kind of thought of the title Kitchen Cakes as meaning cakes you eat in the kitchen, possibly standing up, maybe even over the sink, or as she said in the announcement, “pajama cakes” that you eat when you wake up or when you are ready for bed, while you are lounging around. So a version of “snacking cakes,” often eaten alone.

It adds a deeper chocolate flavor and I love the color!

I’ve just returned from a triumphant quest to procure this yogurt. I am ready!

That’s brilliant. I’ve gotta get some!

How she describes the “kitchen cake” is how I envision the true “snacking cake”. Quick and easy, informal, unfrosted, and holds up a couple of days without refrigeration. I’ll look forward to the first reviews of the book.
