I’m not really a “sweets” person. I like to bake things to try to improve my skills but I usually just bring them to work to leave in the faculty room. They love me. hahaha I don’t try most of the things I bake.
i’d eat the crap out of that.
It’s very pretty! Can’t understand why it was not devoured.
So good!
Potluck number two is tomorrow. I made my signature cranberry cream cheese pound cake, and suffered a slight caketastrophy, likely due to trying to take it out of the pan too early. I just stuck the two parts together, ate all of the stray bits, and will hope for the best tomorrow…
So frustrating, sorry! I’m sure it will be enjoyed regardless.
out of curiosity, what do you use to grease that pan?
I’m signed up to bring meeting snacks to school tomorrow, so I baked a double batch of Washington Post pumpkin bread as muffins and mini muffins. The loaf is for us to keep. Fresh fruit to accompany.
Butter, coated with sugar. I have made this recipe so many times and have never had such a dramatic outcome…
I still have a package of cranberries in my freezer from last year when I planned to make that cake!
Recently, i baked a chicken pot pie from Rose Levy Bernbuam’s book. she authored a lot of books and is quite respected so i trusted her stuff.
but the recipe and result Was WEird. her instructions WEre to cook the chicken and filling on the stove or something. next, bake the pie crust that goes on top by cutting a circle shape of the dough. you bake the pie crust separately in the oven.
next you put the pie crust on top of the filling. is that WEird? so the only think you bake is the pie crust that goes on top.
i thought it Was too heavy tasting and didn’t like the taste. but i think her instructions WEre so Weird because she didn’t Want to cook the chicken filling tWice so that’s WHy it Was baked separately. that is, normally you might have to cook the chicken separately to make sure it’s not raW and fully cooked. once fully cooked, you WOuld bake the chicken filling along WIth the raW pie crust. But doing this in the traditional method Would cook the chicken tWice thereby overcooking it and possibly undercooking the pie dough because the liquid of the filling WOuld keep the pid dough cool and raW. so that’s WHy i think she cooked it separately but it Was Weird and didn’t taste good.
It’s midnight, so of course I’m baking.
Oh those were the days. Now if i dont bake in the afternoon it doesnt get done.
I have no ideas for why your chicken pot pie didn’t turn out nicely. I have seen other sorts of these things with similar setup (stovetop stew covered with a separate crust)
But I simply can’t stop looking at your message and wondering why all the w’s are capitalized! It reminds me of some old courtroom drama where they prove who the blackmailer is by tracing a quirk in the note to his slightly maladjusted typewriter.
I hope you find a chicken pot pie more to your liking.
I always thought ATK’s method was genius. The filling is finished off in the oven in a large Dutch oven, over which the lid has been inverted, and the top crust baked in the inverted lid at the same time. I haven’t yet tried it, but I have every intention.
Gorgeous
My 17 year old grandson baked this cake for his brother’s 12th birthday. Orange and white chocolate cake. How can i compete. A little brag too he just got a 4 year scholarship to study aeronautical engineering at a university here in Canada We are proud.
Molto bene! Grazie mille!
Great job on the cake, and congratulations to him and your family!
That’s great that he has these skills.
Basic cooking/baking skills were essential while I was attending college.
Thanks, Mom!!
