What are the most ridiculous food combinations or descriptions you’ve seen at restaurants?

Odd. I went to college in Albany, and I never heard of it. Fried mozzarella sticks hadn’t reached us yet either (chain fast-casual restaurants were years away).

Maybe it’s as hyper-local as chicken riggies

But Albany is almost by definition in the NY Capital District.

I’ll leave it to @backyardchef, then :woman_shrugging:t3:

I went to SUNY Albany one summer!

I was class of '78, so we probably didn’t overlap.

What makes you say that? I was 78 too! Pretty sure it was summer of '78.

Cool! In the 1978 summer session I took my last class, Old English, to finish up my linguistics and philosophy major. I didn’t really enjoy Albany, but living mostly off campus I did learn to cook with all the hippie ingredients from the food coops.

Most participants in his discussion from 2012 say that they first encountered mozzarella sticks with Melba sauce thirty years before, so in the 1980s. They also mention Albany fish fry and the Troy mini-hot dogs as local specialties, but I didn’t see them in the '70s.

there a place in davis square (somerville, ma), shirley eat more sunshine, that insists on putting aioli — essentially mayonnaise — on sandwiches with fresh mozzarella. had one that was supposed to be basil aioli, but virtually no basil.

such an odd combination. texturally, mayo and fresh mozzarella just don’t mesh — at least not to me.

I am amazed at the the term ‘Caesar’ and how far it gets streeeeetched in the food items. Caesar salmon, Caesar soup, 'Caesar inspired potato gratinée…

Local ode to Melba

There are references dating to the 80s but I know people who say they grew up with it in the 60s, 70s and 80s…

Unfortunately, I think there are pumpkin spice beers available retail and in bars. My beer drinking is confined to sips from my husband’s beer of choice, because I do like the taste. However, if I drink more than a few tablespoons of beer, I get uncomfortably full and can’t eat much.

Oh, yeah. Pumpkin’s a very common beer variety. I hate it, but I hate most everything pumpkin. Baby food.

I had a S’mores stout recently and it was not half bad. And I detest marshmallows…

It gets pretty bad reviews on beer review pages/apps like Untappd as very sweet (which is a bit unusual for a golden ale and more expected for stout - as there are also a few speculoos stouts)
