The bar mats work better than anything we’ve used before which has included

Towels
Microfiber mat
Silicone mat. The ridges were not tall enough
Dish rack

And the bar mats can be rolled up and stored should you want to get them out of the way

I should add this is not ideal for plates obviously but pots and pans no problem. You could use bar mats and pop a small vertical rack on top for plates when you needed it. For us a small palate hand washed may lie on top of the mat on occasion but most go in the dishwasher
