I concur! I was hesitant to participate in a planning thread, cuz I’m not much of a planner… BUT I’ve found it tremendously helpful to check my own post a few days later when I’m at a loss as to what to make — plus it’s great to have so many inspiring posts from other members ![]()
Unfortunately the Blue Jays lost
but on a happy note (for me) the two football teams I was cheering for both won!
Yes, we were watching. A little bit of heartbreak.
I’m amazed by their sportsmanship.
Agree!
(And as you know, @GretchenS, any time you want a break, we can rotate it like the other regular chowhound legacy threads.)
For two adults in San Diego:
Breakfasts: granola and fruit, after some decadent pastries from a local bakery
S: takeout from a local pub
Su: Old school tacos
M: (tonight) Leftover tacos
T: Pasta Alfredo with chicken and spinach
W: Dinner out before a public outreach event
Th-TBD: My husband is undergoing a major medical procedure early Thursday morning, so meals will be whatever he feels up to for as long as needed.
Take care of yourselves!
Sending good energy in your direction and wishing him the best outcome and a good recovery.
Good juju & a hopefully speedy recovery to your husband!
Will be thinking of you both on Thursday with lots of positivity.
Warm thoughts for you and your husband! May his recovery be swift!
Greetings, People.
Went into the city yesterday to run errands - my favorite time of year to be there, despite the inevitable rain. The summer crowds are gone (cruise ships!), the public market, cafes, and other attractions are uncrowded, approachable and enjoyable. It evokes a lot of nostalgia, and immediately put me in the holiday mood.
Cooking for two adults in the PNW.
FRI: Pushed from last week – spaghetti and meatballs. Creamed spinach.
SAT: A repeat of the NYT panko crusted whitefish with tarter (will use hali).
SUN: Some version of steak, potatoes, and leeks.
MON: A seasonal favorite: Chicken stew with mushrooms and leeks. To go with, and as made popular on the baking thread Sourdough discard rolls from Amy Bakes.
TUE: Beans and romesco, loosely based on an ATK recipe (link is a gift link). Italian sausages. Crusty bread. Green salad. I made the romesco at the end of this year’s tomato season, as well as pre-cooked a big batch of beans. Dinner from the freezer - easy-peasy.
WED: Another season favorite: Zuppa Toscana. Joanne Chang’s parmesan-chive scones.
THUR: Blackened salmon. Salad.
Thank you! Procedure went well. Now to try to keep him still while he recovers.
Thank you! All is well so far.
Thanks so much! Things went well.
This is great news!!!
Much appreciated! He is a stubborn patient. ![]()
You are a teacher!! You can handle anything!
Yay and good luck! But I do understand getting antsy when I’m forced to keep still, so I feel for him!
I was a stubborn patient, too, after one half-knee replacement and later two hip replacements. My body taught me to learn to be patient! Hope things go well for him and he recovers quickly! Books and movies helped me alot.
Hello friends it’s a cold blustery day in Ottawa. I ran out to pick up lunch earlier and it’s 2 degrees Celsius (low 30s Fahrenheit) today brrrr. The weatherman is predicting our first snowfall on Sunday which seems early but I guess it’s a reminder that I should dig up my winter boots sooner rather than later. My week continues onward with the usual activities of art classes and film society screenings. I am trying to finish up some random veggies this week so my menus are really vegetable heavy. This is what I have on tap:
Today: I bought salmon sashimi and a wakame salad for lunch today. I will have acauliflower salad for dinner.
Saturday: I will be making an impromptu trip to Chinatown this afternoon since I am getting low on oolong tea and udon noodles. I am also planning on making dal and chana masala this week so I will need to pick up missing ingredients. I am planning on making the dal tonight but I also like the take-away food at the Chinese grocer. I will either make the dal tonight or get take-out and bump my meals forward a day depending on how I feel.
Sunday: I have my weekly drawing class until 1:00 so it will be too late to run home for lunch. I will have a bite to eat at the nearby farmers market for lunch then pick up some fresh locally grown apples while I’m there. I have no other plans for the afternoon so I may take the scenic route home so I can window shop. The street I usually take to my art class goes straight from my apartment building to the building the class is in. However if I walk up the next street over there a quite a few boutiques along the way and I haven’t been there in ages. I will have a bean salad for dinner.
Monday: I will have a sausage and rice bake. I found the recipe in an online recipe booklet on www.theotherwhitemeat.com however that website doesn’t want to work for me today…
Tuesday: Remembrance Day in Canada. I will watch the Remembrance Day ceremonies on tv this morning then I have my afternoon free. It’s a statutory holiday for federal government employees, of which I am one, however I have no plans. I have my watercolour class this evening so I probably won’t go too far since I have to be at class at 6:15. When I get home I will have a serving of peanut soup I found in the freezer the last time I cleaned it.
Wednesday: Chana masala.
Thursday: I have a film society screening today so I will have a bite to eat on my way to the movie theatre.
Have a nice week everyone!
