Hope you’re staying warm / cool depending on the vagaries of the weather where you are
. Here in nyc, we have continued to vacillate between sweltering heat and keep-a-jacket-ready rain / chill so far, let’s see what next week brings!
Spring / summer tend to come with lots of visitors passing through, and this year has been no different. Highlight so far has been quality time with a dear friend who moved away a decade ago, and though we had managed to stay close for a long time, it dropped off the past couple of years. It will be nice to see more friends and friends of friends as they come through June through August, though I expect to be gone for some of that time myself.
I baked after ages – lemon buttermilk pound cake in cupcake form to send for my nephew and for a friend’s son’s birthday.
Recent actuals:
- Capellini with raw tomato sauce + tomato mozzarella salad.
- Tuna tiradito with aji amarillo + corn + mashed cauliflower / potato mix.
- Roasted Bengali-ish mustard salmon with masoor dal / red lentils and bhinda na ravaiya / okra stuffed with cilantro and coconut masala one day and roasted cauliflower another day.
- Vietnamese pork chops with roasted cauliflower and rice one day, and mashed cauliflower / potato mix and sliced tomatoes another day.
- Gujarati favorites: sautéed ivy gourd / tindola with cilantro and coconut and sautéed guvar / cluster beans with dhokli / dumplings + kadhi + chapatis (freezer) + rice.
- Chinese bbq spare ribs + leftover okra + rice.
- Vegan restaurant with visiting friend.
I’m finally ready to start another loaf of bread this weekend. Also still focused on using up freezer ingredients: pretty sure there’s half a rotisserie chicken cut up, vac-sealed, and buried in there somewhere
, I know there’s steak that’s already been cooked sous vide, and some nice scallops I had in mind for brown butter scallop nigiri, so I’m going to resist buying more proteins.
