I won tickets at Spring Onion’s school’s annual gala live auction for him to attend Friday night’s Celts game with the head of the upper school and 2 schoolmates. They started with dinner at Regina (his first time there and he loved it), got on the floor, met Abby Chin and Brian Scalabrine! Meanwhile, B and I—after dropping him off at Regina—parked at MGH and grabbed dinner at an old standby, Hill Tavern. My dinner was kinda terrible (an Asian-y salad, which should always be avoided at a pub; B liked his steak sandwich). But I didn’t care and it was fun sitting at the bar, where I spent many early evenings catching Sox games, waiting for B to get out of work in the pre-SO era. This night, we were on a mission to get last-minute Celts tickets so food was secondary. We scored some cheap seats and surprised everyone by showing up to the game.
Saturday morning, we went down to RI for my dad’s birthday, which was poorly planned (). We were exhausted from a late night and then I had tax return-related stuff to do for my parents; by the time we were done, I was like, $#!t it’s lunch time or do we do dinner somewhere for dad’s birthday. We decided to do lunch. Tried Square Peg in Warren and it was a 40-minute wait. Then we walked across the street to the Wharf, where we’ve been before, and they had a nice table available. Safe, inoffensive food, everyone enjoyed their food (except my lame-o “Asian” tacos…when will I ever learn?!). SO had the kids portion of fish and chips. B had a fried chicken sandwich, mom had linguine and clams, and dad had a bacon cheeseburger. Nice service.
Today, we got a late start. Saw mom and dad for a short while, then we bee-lined to Pizza Marvin. B and I wanted the clam pizza again but instead of a grandma slice of pepperoni, SO wanted thin with pepperoni and sausage. They don’t modify their specialty pizzas and we did not want to get 2 full pizzas (we’d have to bring home leftovers and we just got a new car and didn’t want to stink up the new joint with pizza). So we made a major sacrifice and got a cheese pizza, half pepperoni and sausage/half mushroom and arugula. And it was still so delicious, although I was still regretting forgoing the clam pizza. The things we do for love. SO got the banana-tahini/chocolate soft serve for dessert.
We head to Puerto Rico Wednesday evening for an almost 2-week trip. I’ll be reporting, of course, with our usual low-bar!
