Visitors have 2 days in NYC. Looking for memorable lunch on a Thursday or Friday. Open to tasting menus as well, if any. Have had lunch at Sushi of Gari 46, the Modern, NY Noodletown (but not looking for dimsum, pizza or deli sandwiches)
Is Yasuda still the same quality it was back in the day? I enjoyed my leisurely lunch there tremendously, and remember it well (that was when Yasuda himself was still working the counter).
GCOB?
How about Sadelleâs or Russ & Daughters Cafe?
Where?
Budget?
Anywhere south of say 72nd st. Less than say $300 pp.
Le Bernardin: in the lounge if you canât get a rez â they serve a truncated menu or the dining room lunch menu.
Not sure how youâd define âmemorableâ. That said, we once enjoyed a tasty lunch at downtown Nobu where a large man was working behind the counter. Not long afterwards, we thought he looked familiar on TV as newly appointed Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto.
I remember seeing Morimoto working at Nobu in the late 1990âs when I worked in NYC . He used to refer to me derisively as âHachi â to his coworkers, I tried to pretend I didnât hear it ;). I once asked him to make me something similar to the elaborate creations I saw him making for other customers at the sushi bar. He gave me something quite pedestrian and boring. Clearly I wasnât worth him spending an extra 30 seconds of his time (maybe because I wasnât Japanese?)
Completely different idea: the lunch thali at Chatti.
I agree, that would be an outstanding choice if your party is interested in Indian food Nice surroundings, too.
âDerisionâ might have been him punning?
Manhatta lunch is a la carte. The view there is the main draw though.
Aquavit offers 2 or 3 course lunch with the option to add $ to get their signature Arctic Nest dessert.
@barleywino When is your trip? Any decisions / reservations yet?
November. My guests are leaning towards Japanese or something with many small courses. Not sure whether they like Indian.
Which places are on your shortlist for those?
Have you been to Sakagura lately?
Nope
What do you recommend? (Lunch)
