Week in Paris

We’re leaving for a week in Paris later this evening. Here’s what I’ve lined up - some new to us, some old (er) faves. Should be known that for all intents and purposes, tasting menus are not something we race too, whether here in NYC or anywhere, for that matter.

Soces
Le Gran Bain - this will be a return visit (maybe a 3rd or 4th time), and it’s our favorite for Sunday nights.
Vantre
Parcelles- strangely, we live right around the corner from a bunch of Parcelles NYC restaurants.
L’Assiette
Bistrot des Tournelles
Au Passage - this is valentine’s day, which of course I didn’t realize until I was looking around for somewhere to have dinner on our final night. Fortunately, they don’t appear to be serving a special Valentine’s Day menu, and we’ve eaten here before, like 5 years ago. And liked it then.

One lunch will be at Mokonuts; there will be other lunches, but they are much easier to book last minute.
One will most certainly be sandwiches from Caractère de Cochon, another Breizh.

There’s always chance for a change, provided we can get a booking. It has been a few visits since we dined at Le Baratin, and I might be craving that.

Also not a tasting menu person and our tastes seem to get more and more casual and less white tablecloth dining as we get older. Anyway we’ve been to Parcelles and enjoyed, ate at Au Passage awhile ago and it was good, had great sandwiches at Chez Aline and Alain Miam Miam. Always wanted to get Angela’s Banh Mi in the Marais. Bistro Tournelles was okay nothing great but maybe ordered wrong stuff. We also enjoyed Kubri and Cho Cho sounded good but had to cancel our reservation. I’ve also enjoyed Le Servan over the years and appreciated the Asian touches. Lots of Paris restaurant suggestions on this site. Have fun.

Just saw this and imagining you enjoying every bite! Will be interested in your impressions. Curious about what the Parcelles NYC might be and where? (If you get a chance.) One other sandwich place in the Marais that I enjoy is Mmmozza; it’s an Italian place on Rue de Bretagne.

Well, I certainly do love tasting menus, if for no other reason that the chef makes all the decisions for me. Another reason is that I usually end up discovering exceptional dishes that I might never have ordered.

But that doesn’t mean that I don’t also have a list of favorites where I usually order from the carte, although in some cases they may also have a special lunch or dinner “de jour”. So, although you are probably back home by now - and I look forward to hearing about your trip - for the record here’s that list:

Juveniles 1e
Bistrot Instinct 4e,
Baillotte 6e
Café des Ministères 7e
Origines 8e
Neva Cuisine 8e
Caillebotte 9e
Les Arlots 9e
Eels 10e
Clamato 11e
Le Cornichon 14e
Restaurant 975 17e
