WCreek SanDai & Kopi Bar shut down!

So bummed I never got the chance to go:

SF Chron 20June2025
" SanDai, Walnut Creek’s unique Singaporean-Indonesian restaurant, has closed. Chef-owner Nora Haron announced the news, as well as the closure of her adjacent Indonesian-inspired cafe, Kopi Bar, in a press release Friday. Despite strong weekend crowds, she said that slow midweek activity was too much to overcome. Monthly rent for the space on North Main Street, a quieter stretch compared to the heart of downtown Walnut Creek, was more than $28,500, according to Haron. The upscale restaurant and coffee bar closed March 2 after opening in [early 2023].

While the first incarnation of Kopi Bar has closed its doors the brand will live on, Haron said, she hopes to expand the coffee shop to new locations through next year.

(Closure was blamed on slow midweek business and high rent)

I’d only had the chance to try Kopi Bar, not the full service offering, but I’m glad the former is (hopefuly) coming back in some form. I can’t quite remember the name, but the little avocado and espresso cortado that they offered was a very unique drink, and the quick service options like the fried chicken breakfast sandwich or the pastry case were always enjoyable addition to the morning caffeine

People overestimate Walnut Creek tastes. While the area needs more diversity the people have really simple palettes.
