Wally’s Cafe - Rocklin, CA (also Emeryville)

Back when I worked for Pixar in Emeryville, there was this little Lebanese place tucked in the back of a seedy bar on San Pablo Ave. called Wally’s Cafe. They were just down the block, had great prices, house made hummus and baklava, all the schwarma and falafel and a garlic chicken sandwich that could kill vampires at 50 paces.

So how thrilled was I to find out that there’s a second location right up the road in Rocklin! While its strip mall location has a little less, uh, character than its dive-y Emeryville spot, the food and the charming, friendly service have transferred over in tact.

Sandwiches are accompanied by a bowl have warm, cumin-heavy lentil-based soup that almost reads like chili.

Here’s the aforementioned chicken garlic roll:

And every meal comes with a bite of house made baklava, lightly sweet and flaky.

Not pictured: the partner’s chicken schwarma wrap which she proclaimed “excellent”. Also not pictured, the hummus and pita appetizer which we did not get this time but, assuming things are just like Emeryville, will be fabulous.

Friendly, casual, excellent quality to price ratio. If you’re near either location, check em out.
