Visited by the Corelle poltergeist.

It was one of those hybrid plate/bowl dishes just sitting in the sink. No thermal or physical stress. Just sitting there. It had split in two with a very loud pop. I heard it from another room, and it had me baffled until i saw what had happened. I knew things like pyrex could shatter if not treated right, and i’ve had Corelle shatter when dropped. I did not know Corelle could do that spontaneously. Evidently there’s internal stress due to the manufacturing process that can cause it to happen with no visible prior damage.

I had that happen with a butter dish. Not corelle, but it’s scary.

Thanks for the warning!

Wonder if that’s a friend of the wine glass poltergeist?

Mid pandemic my wine glasses were spontaneously leaping of the drying rack. . .

Im still using my Mom’s corelle dishes, more than 40 years old. It replaced the old melamine dishes that I grew up with, which cant be microwaved. The corelle is super light, very durable and microwaveable. And while not beautiful it functions. and it would be hard to think of any kind of dishware that does not break, chip etc. Ive never had this expereince with corelle but if I did I could live with it whereas with my “nice” dishes its a big disappointment!

My mom is using her 49 year old Corelli every day. It looks amazing. Hand washing probably helps. Mine is 20 or so years old. A few chipped rims from over stuffing the dishwasher but hard to beat overall value and functionality
