Updates and running commentary from our critters

@linguafood, will you be able to post current pics (taken by his caregiver) of your boy while you’re gone?

I probably already have enough current cat pics to post one a day, but I will ask our caregiver to show occasional proof he’s alive and happy & share here

Tim, your stupid post about your stupid dog sent me on a stupid hour+ rabbit hole dive into rescue dogs in my area. Super stupid because I am way too old to adopt a dog who needs a forever home. My “forever” doesn’t even allow for green bananas. Worse, every dog I felt an affinity for was big enough to fly me like a kite on leashed walks. But there are some great buddies out there waiting. Thanks for the daydream.

Would fostering be a possibility? If you choose the right fit?

But maybe it’d be hard to say goodbye. On the other hand, you would be helping it on its path to a forever home!

PS: Your post really touched me.

I don’t know how old you are, but some 85-yr old recently had this advice in the NYT:

" 4. Get a dog.

Just do it. Dogs are rarely trouble. They take more naps than you do, and they listen to you intently. That’s because they think you might have food, to satisfy their bottomless appetites. Care not about their motives. No creature on Earth will ever find you more fascinating than your dog does. I’m excluding yourself, of course."

Delicious!! Many thanks.

Another thing to consider - there are a lot of middle aged and senior dogs that are looking for homes for what remains of their “forever”. They are often overlooked because adopters gravitate to the puppies and younger adult dogs. You might strike gold with a more seasoned dog!

Yes to this! My keyboarder has been adopting senior dogs (it can get $$$ if they have a lot of health issues, of course, which was the case with a German Shepherd who did) ever since his own dogs passed of old age.

It’s a blessing for these cuties, if one can deal with the heartbreak when you have to let them go.

Indeed, locally Muttville finds homes for senior dogs.
ETA I have had my puppy and kitten experiences. No more, thank you.

Yes Yes Yes Yes YES!!! Older dogs (and cats!) need love and homes to live out their last years. They’re slower, because they’re older like the rest of us, and they’re so appreciative of the love you’re giving them, and they give that love back in spades.
