Trader Joe's YEA/NAY/MEH, 2023 Edition

Didn’t know TJ’s carried grilled olives now, too. I usually get them at one of our international stores.

While I’m not much for olives in my martinis, the grilled ones def take it to another level

If they’re not already sold out, the frozen pumpkin sticky toffee puddings. The pumpkin isn’t strong. It’s JUST like other sticky toffee puddings that are $10 or more in fine restaurants. They keep for a few weeks in the fridge, if you don’t have freezer space. Gild the lily with a scoop of salted maple ice cream. The maple mini biscotti are delish. The tarte d’Alsace is an excellent flammekuechen, in the freezer. Also there, phyllo cups with caramelized onions and feta (goat cheese?). Snapdragon apples, if your supermarket doesn’t stock them. Meat case: sweet and savory spatchcocked chicken.

P.S. The pound plus chocolate bars. Good quality, great price.

Forgot the name of the small, seed-packed loaf of bread but the slices are only about 3" x3" so easy to spot. It makes a nut butter sandwich for breakfast that will keep you sated until lunch.

Are the new chocolate croissants in the same packaging, or did they change that too? I’ve been in twice in the last two weeks and only saw what looked like the same old chocolate croissants. I still picked up a box anyway. I did only notice a small number though, so wasn’t sure if they were still phasing out the old stock and replacing with the new, or if they kept the same packaging.

They were delicious as always, but I didn’t notice any more chocolate in the ones I just had.

Different packaging; I’ll take a photo when I get home. I have some in the freezer, haven’t tried yet.

You should call first thing in the am before you go to TJ, they will check and save if they have.

Thank you, I’m making a list! Too bad no Aldi anywhere near.

Yea for the Cacio e Pepe gnocchi. Surprisingly good IMO.

I almost picked it up as well as Roman Gnocchi, but the latter seemed like too small a portion. Next time.

I’ve gotten grilled olives at a couple of Middle Eastern markets, as well as at Marshall’s (yup!). Trader Joe’s are my favorite by far - so good that I try to keep a spare jar lest they suddenly discontinue them…

Interesting! I’ll have to try TJ’s if they’re your favorite. Gotta finish off that jar I have in the fridge first, tho

I’ll have to try them again I bought a jar a couple months ago for a charcuterie board and found they were not very ‘grilled’ or smokey.

I know someone who’d appreciate those this coming holiday season!

The seedy loaf is called Super Bread.

Just tried YAY but I don’t know if I need this, calorie-wise.

Baked for exactly 25 minutes, easy, extremely flaky.

Meh on the Chantilly Cream Vanilla Bean Mini Sheetcake. IMO the frosting is 'way too thick and 'way too sweet. I had to scrape away 2/3 of the frosting to eat it.

Success! I finally spotted this in the wild at my local TJ and I picked up a box last night. Guess they really were running through all the old stock. I don’t know if I can do chocolate croissants two weekends in the row so this will have to wait til later.

They come 4 to a box.

Apologies! I called everyone ‘Chowhounders’, oops! Start again.
