Yea to Rose & Finch red wine, a generic CA blend with nice fruit and no flaws. $2.99, probably a one-off, so I stocked up.
The tjās bun is entirely too sweet and I guess to me a slider is all about the onions which tjās doesnāt even try to duplicate
You had tacos? I donāt think anything that āforeignā was permitted in our school district and that was in California!
I give the onion confit puffs a YEA minus because of how small the box is.
It doesnāt surprise me that the pastry isnāt crisp because puff pastryās texture is evanescent. And my reaction to the words, ācaramelized onionsā is best described as comparable to a hound hearing āsquirrel !ā. But why are the contents not more than that of a box of animal crackers?
Weep!
Anyone tried them?!
Ooh, I was just there, wish Iād known to look.
For sure Iāll try ā¦
double chocolate croissants
Well, I know what Iām trying next.
Why would anyone even wonder if these were passable? That theyāre not is culinary a priori knowledge, like 1 + 2 = 3.
Dang it, if they want another proof it yourself puff pastry item, bring back the superb Kouign Amann frozen 4-pack they discontinued perhaps a decade ago!
Dang, Iām going to have to look for these tomorrow. I thought their old pain du chocolates that you had to defrost and proof were pretty good already.
Agree, both the chocolate and the almond ones that prove overnight are great. My only negative on all chocolate croissants is that the measly single tube of chocolate is not nearly enough, so Iām excited about them doubling the chocolate
Lol, and that might be why I really liked them. Iām usually not much of a chocolate person, but I do enjoy them (sparingly) sprinkled into the croissant dough.
the new frozen falafal balls, hopefully without rocks, were pretty good in the air fryer with tjs tzadiki dip, garlic hummus and harissa. we added cucumber, a good tomater (as my friends from queens would say) and some tjs pita.
the papadam chips were a nay.
iāve been unimpressed with their popular orange chicken, we bought an air fryer, worth revisiting?
Skip their syrupy sauce and use your own. (This one is good if you like gochujang.)
YAY: Egg Bits (cheddar cheese & bacon). Tried something like this from Costco a while back and was kind of disappointed. I like these better: nice egg texture (a little fluffy), good bacon and cheese flavor.
YAY: Lobster Bisque. Perfectly reasonable version of this, with a few good-sized chunks of (somewhat rubbery) lobster. I wouldnāt serve it to guests, but it makes a pretty good solo lunch.
YAH-ish: Slightly Coated Dark Chocolate Almonds. āSlighly coatedā is the key phrase here; I go back and forth on whether these are chocolatey enough for me. If you go into it expecting almonds with a little bit of chocolate flavor, theyāre quite tasty. Just donāt expect the chocolate to be a co-equal partner with the almond.
Target has a slightly coated chocolate almond too. We like them. Maybe theirs is called lightly coated?
I might have to try these. I donāt like the balance in the dark chocolate almonds theyāve sold for years (in tubs and smaller bags), because I feel the chocolate is too thick. Of course, my ideal is probably something midway between slightly and thickly.
TBH, a slider (to me) is those little onion bombs that white castle sells and the frozen ones are very good. Itās just frustrating that the āidealā microwavable food needs to be defrosted (plan in advance) in order to nuke it properly. Otherwise the WC slider is already good to have around.
Yes, thereās really no figuring what convenience foods people find dear and comfortable. Some can even ignore the ābadā in ādependably badā. Pop Tarts are just the most glaring example that come to mind. Heck, I occasionally buy frozen Marie Callendar pot pies to have around.
But IMO, Tader Joeās is all about triangulating convenience, quality and price. The sights were 'way off with frozen sliders.
Iām pretty happy with the single tube of chocolate in the current version, and might actually prefer a bit less. It kills me that I missed the proof-it-yourself Kouign Amanns of yore.
