Any chance this was a bad bottle? The baby diaper part might suggest that. Not volunteering as a blind taster; just wondering.
No, I’ve experienced brett-y wines before, and maybe diaper wasn’t the right term here. This was a lot like a two-buck Chuck syrah I tried maybe 20 years ago. I brought some to a meeting of experienced tasters, and they said it was typical of some Central Valley wines.
Hey, now! No need to get personal!
I had the frozen vegetable pad thai for lunch today. Meh. It’s biggest fault imo was that the bean sprouts were in a 1:1 ratio with the noodles. No. Pad thai is a noodle dish. Bean sprouts supposed to be a flavoring, not the main meal. Otherwise, it was unremarkable. Sauce was ok. Cashews instead of peanuts. A couple scallion and tofu pieces as an afterthought. Not a repeat buy.
big yay for amarena cherry double cream goat cheese. had it on granny smith apple slices. also great for stuffed french toast. just hope it’s still there when i go back.
Repeat YEA for the frozen Kimbap, I tried the pan-frying method and liked it.
There is now a rationing system for these against hoarders at my store — they don’t even put them out, There’s a sign saying you have to ask an employee to get them from the back, and it’s 2 pack limit.
What did people do? I’ve never seen this before, even when puff pastry and pie crust went “seasonal” and people went nuts stocking up.
It’s really insane how quickly this goes. Since my last post, I didn’t see this product around for months and then suddenly it came back on a lunch-time walk through. I bought two and by next week, all were gone again. No kimbap in sight again for about 3 weeks. Once again, happened to stumble upon them one day at lunch and bought another two (and there were only a handful left). This was about 2 weeks ago and haven’t seen them since.
I pick up their inexpensive salads for lunch a lot, so when I go to the Trader Joe’s by work multiple times a week. It’s like it’s crack. Each time I’ve found it though it’s half a ‘column’ in the freezer space, and I can tell that is not going to last. Other items seem to always be full (looking at you, Taiwanese scallion pancakes…), so I don’t know if there are also production and shipping issues that are making these hard to fulfill for stores too.
In MD, they have a whole wheat lavash with pretty decent macros. It is tasty out of the bag or toasted til crisp and crack-like.
I like the kimbap but find them a bit dry. What’s a good prep method? Usually I just microwave for 15 seconds and’s I also tried dipping them in egg wash and pan frying (not my favorite). Maybe steam a little or microwave wrapped in damp paper towel??
Do you take them out of the plastic wrap before you microwave? Do you defrost it? I microwave from frozen, using the directions on the back and they came out well, not dry. You don’t want them too moist, because it makes the seawood wrap a little chewy. I think the plastic wrap enclosure keeps the steam in to keep it moist. Remember to cut the little hole in the corner though.
Usually microwave cut pieces out of package after fully thawed. If you microwave from frozen aren’t they very hot?
Lunch is TJ’s creamy organic red pepper and tomato soup with a dash of Aleppo pepper & sprinkle of salt.
One of the more reliable supermarket soups. YAY.
just back from a tj’s run. a few things i needed were out of stock, so i treated my self to a couple of new finds — both big yeas!
onion confit swirls: about the. size of a quarter, puff pastry is wrapped around a filling, which, according to the ingredient list, doesn’t actually contain any onion per se. and has emmental cheese that i couldn’t really taste. but no matter — wolfed down the entire 75 gram box — $2.99
and at $3.99 for 100 grams, hold the cone tips — waffle cone tips filled with dark chocolate. exactly as described. one, maybe two bites — just enough.
YEA for the frozen Papas Rellenas. Mashed potato stuffed with spiced ground beef and crumb coated.
YEA for the Cassava chips I’m surprised they still stock.
The packaging recommends 2 minutes from frozen. I don’t find they get too hot, but I do take them out of the sleeve and let them sit for a few minutes before I eat them. On their website (and I think others on this thread may have tried this), they also suggest pan frying each side for 2 mins each. Might try that next time to see how it comes out.
I did try pan frying, but with a light egg wash (per something I read). Wasn’t a fan. Maybe without the egg.
I guess this would be a NAY.
I love roasted basil salmonella.
wow! i was there this morning and had meant to get some basil, but forgot.
What I saw in the news article was those very small packets like herbs come in.
