I made a point of going to TJ’s before Labor Day, since some of my year-round staples take a Pumpkinundation sabbatical. Most of the pumpkin spice interlopers lack appeal for me. However, yesterday I looked at the online list and am interested in nearly 30 of the seasonal items. That’s not a majority, and once I examine labels I’m sure the list will shrink, but I’m gonna need “shelf stretchers” for both refrigerator and cabinets!

Yay for the hand twisted cinnamon bread. It’s similar to the Semifreddis Cinnamon Twist I normally buy, but even better. Unfortunately it’s dangerously addictive!

I slice the whole loaf, great in toaster oven.

YAY!!!..I noticed in the Fall Fearless Flyer that Red Leicester cheese is back. I haven’t seen it in over five years, and am psyched! It’s a terrific cheddar though it’s been so long that I can’t remember what it was that elevates it above other cheddars. I do remember overbuying it, and that happily, it wasn’t quick to mold.

Yes, I saw that too, and it caught my attention. I just hope that it’s similar to the Red Leicester they had back then, which I believe was called Red Fox. Since then, I’ve found other Red Leicesters, such as Sparkenhoe, but IMO none were as good as the one TJ had. I plan to try it, and will report back.

I knew the brand was different, and am 100% certain you are right that it’s Red Fox. I once noticed it at either Hannaford or possibly Wegman’s, but it was $21/#. I passed, because it looked like it was drying out at the edges and for that price…nah.

Recently, TJ’s had Jasper Hill Cave 5, which is a periodic limited supply, very nutty cheddar type (I think) blend.

Another superb cheddar that I saw at Wegmans is Mull of Kintyre, from Scotland. I always ask for it and they’ve never again had it. At the time, it was on special display, with samples. One taste of its nutty richness and I was hooked!

Yay on the sauerkraut with pickled cucumbers. Nothing earth-shattering, but what’s not to like?!
Semi-yay on the Stripey Joe’s cheese. It’s cool looking, but the flavors seem kind of muted.

Not sure if these are something new or old and I never notice them before, but the sesame honey almonds are a huge YAY! So delicious! Just a tiny bit sweet, and a little extra crunch from the sesame seeds. Definitely will get these again, and probably will need to soon, since I’m quickly working my way through the bag.

Mull of Kintyre is excellent.

Nay to the glut of pumpkin products. They are not restocking regular items so they have room for all things pumpkin. I was told something I use almost daily would be in a month ago. Now I’m told it won’t be back until pumpkin season is over. I was so irritated I didn’t ask when that would be. There are seasonal items I love, but if you can’t get items you constantly purchase they will be losing business from me. What makes it worse is many of those pumpkin products were repulsive sounding. I think they’ve went overboard.

Actually, that is the real reason so many items become discontinued.Their business model is to constantly introduce new items. So rather than only discontinue slower selling items, they also discontinue items that sell well as they need to free up shelf-space, even if the new item is in a completely different department. It prevents any one type of item from expanding too much even if it is popular.

TJs has been going overboard on pumpkin spice stuff for years. I’m so done with it.

And, as far a shelf space displacement goes, the pumpkin stuff will soon enough be replaced by holiday stuff (which is at least usuall6 more interesting).

I just tried the Rutland Red Leicester at TJ, and it’s good, but not as good as how I remember the Red Fox. Then again, that was many years ago. I suppose I’ll get it again, but no plans to stockpile it or anything like that. I’m just looking forward to November, when (hopefully) they’ll have my favorite again, the Beemster Royaal Grand Cru Gouda. Sort of like Old Amsterdam, but far better. I recently defrosted a wedge I’d cryovac’d and frozen last year, and it was every bit as great as I remember. Unfortunately, freezing ruined its texture.

Meh from me on the Red Leicester - the cheddar part is tasty, but it tastes moldy and that’s not my jam.

Yea on the flavored sparkling water in cans - so far I’ve tried cranberry and raspberry.

Also a big Yea on the lemon elderflower sparkling cans - they’re lovely as is or as the base for a cocktail. (Bit sweet for me as is, so I add some regular or lemon seltzer.)

And their sparkling apple cider is another big Yea.

Alcoholic or non-alcoholic cider?

Non-alcoholic - sparkling juice I guess?

I hope they’ll have the imported hard cider - Don Armor or some similar name, in a green champagne bottle - closer to Thanksgiving. It sells out quickly.
