I love carnations. They last 2 weeks, especially if you keep changing the water and snipping off the ends.
Not around here. I sometimes buy the tulips, just because I love tulips. They seldom ladt the week though, even with lots of babying. But our produce is wonderful.
MEH on the jarred Roasted Red Pepper and Almond Pesto.
It’s a bit watery, the almonds aren’t processed well, it veers sweet, and tastes pretty flat. Also unpleasant: pepper skins.
My thought to salvage it is to stick an immersion blender in to take care of the pepper skins and the almonds, and then doctor into muhammara or romesco sauce. Open to other ideas.
I’d just return, thanks for warning.
I don’t buy tulips/irises cause don’t last long AT ALL but a friend gave me advice I haven’t tried.
She said to find a penny before 1962 and put it in the vase of water to make tulips last longer.
PS: I just asked google. First, it’s before 1982. There’s other advice there.
re ti’s flowers:
if i see ranunculus, i’ll treat myself, but the rest of the time i get alstroemeria — also known as peruvian lilies (which i also get at my local market basket). pretty, they can last as long as two weeks, and inexpensive — $4.99/10 stems (might have gone up to $5.99)
i love blood oranges and sumos, but when they’re no longer available, its the tiny mandarins for the rest of the year. and love that they’re available in the two-pound bag. i live alone and the bigger bags can dry out befoe i can finish them all.
So funny about the flowers. From my local TJs, the flowers almost always last a good 2 weeks (except for roses that always seem to start wilting after about 5-6 days). Coworkers who also buy from TJ report the same thing. I don’t know if it’s the water locally, or we’re lucky to have super fresh flowers.
I don’t like throwing food out (what a return would mean) if it’s salvageable
We had the amylu teriyaki and pineapple meatballs from Costco 2 years ago and they were a solid meh- that seems to be what the TJ ones in the review are supposed to be.
I agree, the Amylu suck, too. We could barely eat them.
I’ll remember this; I love garlic-stuffed olives, but I usually get them from olive bars.
Love alstroemeria, though I’m not sure I’ve bought any from TJ’s, and always find it surprising how long it lasts in general, given how delicate the flowers are. It comes in a lovely variety of colors.
I thought those were only ok, but I loved the coffee flavor that I bought once then never saw again.
I grew hedges of them when we lived in California. Yes, they do last a long time. We don’t have a TJ’s here, would like to see one here; the nearest one is 260 miles west of here. I buy my flowers at our Safeway, the best selection and usually reasonable.
Unclear on TJ’s panko. I like to make pan-fried panko fish filets, potato and rice flour, egg dip, panko. They usually come out evenly golden, when I used Japanese panko. But last night, using the same technique, same cooking temperature, they browned unevenly, coming close to scorching in some places. These panko crumbs were much larger than the Japanese, and I wonder if that was the problem.
I had problems with their panko too. Haven’t bought it since.
What brand do you like?
Interesting, I haven’t noticed an issue, but I use panko only occasionally.
I’m not near my pantry, but I think I just use my local supermarket (Harris Teeter) brand. And it is much better (Whatever it is I use).
