I filled up on Saturday for $2.79 a gallon. Today, same station was advertising $3.19.
Yeah, we went from $2.70 to 3.30 in an overnight flash. Also @Desert-Dan and @Zoeliculious. Theyāve dropped a bit to $3.15 last night/today.
Our gas is often cheaper late at night
Gas is always more expensive in California. Regular went from around $4.19/gallon last week to $4.89 when I filled up today.
IIRC, Cali gas is more expensive because it has more restrictions on how pure it is than any other state, and what it can output in terms of pollutants? Something Iāve read at one time or another, anyway.
There may be other reasons for its expense, but my foggy memory of what I read said the biggest component was the required purity. And purity may be a poor descriptor - I think mainly it was just about what kinds of pollutants and how much of them was output from the average car.
Anyway, yes indeed, Cali fuel prices seem crazy for those used to flyover-state prices.
That, plus thereās a shortage of refineries here. A big one in the north bay shut down recentlyāI think they provided 1/3 of the gasoline around here.
Ouch!
It will be āinterestingā to see how/whether increased transportation costs factor into grocery prices, and for how long ā just when all my frequently-bought grocery items were showing notable price decreases⦠sigh. For those of us who go a month or two (or more) on a tank of gas, the extra $6 to fill isnāt much of a factor for getting to/from the store.
Prices keep on going up here in Canada for everything.
Regular unleaded gas was between $1.48 and $1.55 CAD/l in Toronto today.
I paid $1.75 CAD/l ($1.29 USD/l, $4.88 USD/ gallon) for 91 octane in the sticks. 91 Octane would have cost over $5 USD/ gallon in Toronto today.
Weāre getting there ⦠and for folks who donāt drive much and/or have very fuel efficient/EV cars, everything is going to go up, because of transportation fuel costs and Iām sure a bit of temptation to profitnn
Nothing on sale this week (that I can use) other than cabbage. One store has it for 49 cents/pound. Iāll probably pick up a head ā maybe soup ā maybe a casserole of some type.
Iām fairly well stocked and I donāt feel as much pressure about repeating items since Neighbor #2 has resumed her own cooking/meals. Not that she would say anything, but I felt some pressure not to serve the same thing over and over again.
I did hear something in the news about the price of all groceries going up because of increased trucking costs directly relating to the price of gas/diesel.
I heard similarly that a component of natural gas/petrochemical of some sort is used in crop fertilizer and likely to go up, increasing food costs. Weeee.
I went for my early morning bicycle ride up to the store in search of clearance items. Unfortunately, there was nothing, but I still enjoyed my ride.
As I passed the local gas station the price for regular unleaded was $4.69/gallon ā that is up $1.00/gallon since the last time I purchased gas.
We are up to $1.58-$1.61 CAD/ litre for regular unleaded gas this week, in Ontario. Diesel has been $1.99 CAD/ l all week.
With the exchange, $1.61 CAD/litre is $4.43 USD/ gallon today. Usually, gas has been much cheaper in the States over the past 40 years.
People in Alberta pay less for gas, and people in BC and Quebec pay more for gas, relative to Ontario.
I was just trying to do the conversion, but yes price is similar.
I donāt have any answers ā Iāll just leave the car in the garage as much as possible and keep riding my bicycle.
I canāt ride a bike anymore.
I fill up at cheaper gas stations when I have the opportunity.
I walk to get my groceries when Iām in Toronto. When Iām in London, ON, I do a big shop once or twice a week with the car.
I understand ā Sunshine canāt ride her bicycle anymore, either.
She does walk with me from time to time.
Itās great that you can (sometimes) walk to the grocery store!!
