Topo-Chico

Am I missing something, or is Topo-Chico (and similar beverages) just flavored seltzer?

What else would they be?

Topo Chico produces unflavored and flavored sparkling mineral water (distinguished from seltzer by its naturally-occuring mineral composition). They also make “hard” or alcoholic sparkling beverages, but I don’t believe these use the same mineral water as their non-alcoholic waters (see links below).

Their mineral waters are very good - they have a distinctive (but not overpowering) mineral flavor and a moderate level of carbonation with fairly large bubbles. I haven’t tried their hard seltzers.

The plain Topo Chico is very bubbly. It’s also a key component in the Ranch Water cocktail (tequila + Topo Chico + lime juice)–I believe the mineral content gives the cocktail a little bit of character.

The flavored Topo-Chico ingredients list seems to indicate plain carbonated water, not mineral water. I’m no connoisseur, but it not clear to me that it’s worth the price difference over basic seltzer.

I just had one of those yesterday! Possibly two!

There is a tiny amount of juice in the flavors we have tried, so maybe that’s the justification for the higher price.

Well, I bought it as part of a “have to buy three cases to get the sale price” sort of thing, but it’s not going on my permanent list. At least San Pellegrino seems to have more to justify its price.
