Top Chef Season 17

I think Tom said that Bryan’s (?) dish would have benefited from a piece of “crispy” prosciutto.

So proud and impressed by both Melissa and Stephanie.

Yes, they are “crushing it”, as Stephanie likes to say!

I’m at my stage of grief that allows me to rewatch the episodes in Italy.

I want to remember this part.

And sobs :disappointed:

I will soon be rewatching the whole season. :sob:

Spoilers/recaps

Who I wanted to win won, so I am happy and satisfied. I only miss seeing Gregory’s final meal. I hope he may compete again at some point, and we can finally see a TC final meal from him.

Not directly Top Chef, but an interesting article about Padma’s new series:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/18/dining/padma-lakshmi-taste-the-nation.html

It’s on Hulu, but one episode is available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_CAJy3gxKM

Yes!

Tom, when Top Chef is about to drop the hammer…,.,“Padma…?”

Apparently Tom has a new show too, and seemed a bit irritated that it wasn’t featured on “Watch What Happens Next” like Padma’s was .

Yes, chef !

Loving Padma and her show, and that perhaps she’s not just a pretty
( albeit pigmented) face.

To be fair, why is her show mentioned and Tom’s wasn’t?

Not sure how I felt about Tiffany D’s commercial, but I love Tiffany D. , so it’s all, good.

Padma 's show might warrant it’s own thread , but I’m watching it now, and she asks her daughter to choose American pancakes or dosas , and daughter says “you’re exposing me!”. What is she, like 10? Daughter handles it.

Padma lived in Queens! Same-same!. Okay, not. But totally loving Padma right now. Who knew???

Well, I’m glad Melissa won but I would have been gladder if Bryan won. Right now I’m sad for me because it’s over.

I’m pretty sure they at least mentioned Tom’s podcast on WWHL as I added it to my library last night.

@MsBean, you are right, that guy ((Andy?) did mention it, but I thought it was after Tom asked why he wasn’t getting any love.

That is very possible. I was still day dreaming about the food that won Top Chef.

I just got worried. Will there be a season 18 with both Padma and Tom with their own shows? If there is (I hope) I don’t know how it can live up to this one.

Very happy for Melissa! She’s been nailing it.

However I did find it funny when all the judges were lauding her incredible creativity with the tiramisu … really? Trading coffee for tea isn’t that big of a stretch! Has nobody ever made different favors of tiramisu before? Or just not in Italy? I did love that it made the butcher cry, what a compliment.

Tom made a weird face when he ate his. I wonder what that was about

Tom’s is a podcast, rather than a “show”, so maybe it wont be too time consuming.

I was so happy Melissa won. I was rooting for her the whole season. So glad she got so focused at the end and pulled it off. So proud of Stephanie too. She got into an awesome groove at the end there too.

And that Italian Butcher guy always makes for some crazy TV - he’s probably a little too much for me in person, but I’ve always found him entertaining whenever he’s been on a show.

I always got the sense that in Italy, traditionalism rules, but that’s just based on hearsay and not personal experience. Most tea flavor foods I’ve had uses the tea leaves or a food that may be soaked or brined in straight tea. It produces a harsher tea flavor, and has more smokiness or bitterness. This was milk tea flavor which is an interesting twist (to me). I personally love milk tea, so I would order that if I saw that on a menu.

After the episode, they have a little promo to a series of extras called What Would Tom Do. I don’t recall seeing these anywhere before, but they are available now on demand on Comcast to too. These are 6 mins each, and a lot of fun! Good to see Tom take a turn in the kitchen. Did anyone watch these?
