We really enjoyed our dim sum lunch in downtown TO, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called.

It was also 9 years ago, so who knows if it’s still the same quality.

There’s a few decent dim sum joints downtown, but the better one are up north in the burbs.

Yeah, and we never even made it to Chinatown, either. Short stay :frowning:

I had wonderful dim sum in downtown Toronto at Lai Wah Heen. It subsequently closed and then reopened some time later, so I have no idea what the quality is like now. It was very expensive.

Lai Wah Heen is expensive but good, according to my friend who went maybe 6 weeks ago.

The One is supposed to be good.

Yup! You hit the nail on the head! The word here is ‘supposed’!

Had their Dim Sum lunch three times and struck out each time! Never again! Tons of way better places!!

Current favourite is Jumbo Lobster on Leslie & Hwy7

Looks great for a splurge lobster dinner, but the dim sum menu(from what I can see) looks very limited.

Quality over quantity!

Product follows traditional dainty and refined approach unlike some popular places dishing out giant size, rough with an edge morsels. Har-Gow being one of such example.

Thanks Charles, I think we need more variety, maybe another time

Zoelicious in Oakville is still good. Limited space for larger groups though.

Pearl might be the best we’ve had downtown. It’s expensive, but the view of the harbour is great. It’s not as good as what we’ve had in the 905, but its a nice place to take guests that’s downtown.

Dine and Dim makes our list as the best place within two blocks of our house. It’s cheaper and lacks finesse. But it serves the need when we are lazy.

In the 905, we have most recently enjoyed Orient Bistro and have also enjoyed Skyview Fusion and Casa Victoria in the past.

Thanks @DrJohn ! I will pass the 905 recommendations on to my DC’s.

IMO after the closure of crown princess there has been a dearth of good dim sum in Toronto, one has to venture out to the suburbs to get decent dim sum. Believe it or not I get my dim sum fix from T&T supermarket food court instead of going to the the spots in the Spadina Chinatown!
There are "high end’ spots like Lai Wah Heen and Mott 32 so maybe someone who has tried these can chime in about those places.

They are not really “my” recommendations. We went to Orient Bistro and Skyview Fusion based on Charles posting about them.

Gotcha :+1: They look fancier than we’re used to  We’re a “cheap & cheerful” kinda crowd.

Then consider Dine and Dim on Gerrard East. It’s not fancy, inexpensive, and fairly enjoyable.

Besides a few true fellow ‘ Sino-phile ‘ foodie like Daniel, I doubt any of you folks have actually heard of this quasi-Hole-in-the-wall, hidden gem - Tak Fu Dim Sum Emperor (633 Silver Star Blvd, Scarborough)?! Offering authentic, “old-school” Cantonese dim sum in a cozy, casual setting. Their fresh, made-to-order dishes, especially the deep-fried items ( Taro Croquettes ) and large, juicy shrimp dumplings (Har Gow) are praise worthy! Stir Fried noodles and rice dishes are well executed, reasonably priced and highly recommended.
Good quality, ‘traditional ‘ Dim Sum does not have to be gimmicky and fancy and offer in fine dining establishments! BTW, there are over two dozen plus items on the menu, which should satisfy and please a lot of people!
