What do you think so far?
I watched the first two episodes. It was fine.
Perhaps I would like it more if I ate bread.
I didn’t realize he was in Men In Black, so there’s that!
Just another minor celebrity going from place to place and emoting over some food. Where is the next Anthony Bourdain? Bourdain did literate voice over narration, whether he was trapped in Lebanon by war, eating animal anus in Africa, worshipping at the porcelain throne, or getting flipped at judo. Shalhoub eats bread.
I am really enjoying the latest episode. It is in Brazil.
He’s not trying to be Bourdain any more than Tucci is.
I never said he was, nor any of the other celebrity traveling eaters. I just miss the intelligence of the Bourdain series. I do see the present crop of traveling eater shows as their producers’ somewhat lame attempts to tap the viewer market left unserved so far.
I’ll take a more thoughtful “minor” celebrity over Kim Kardashian trying to sell me bread any day. Tony Shalhoub has been in tv and movies since the 90s, and is a fabulous character actor. All actors should be lucky to have a career like he’s had, and none of the paparazzi and tabloid nonsense.
I love bread, so this show would be right up my alley. Tony may not be a headline name, but he has Lebanese roots and any cooking show, and if the show isn’t planning on going heavy on French or Italian food, or the dreaded “pan-Asian,” is a nice start.
Have you watched the show?
I have watched them. And Tucci, and Eva, and the famous chef with his family.
I finally caught about 20 minutes of one episode last night before I fell asleep. Not because of the content but it was well past bed time. This episode was really cute, and we got to meet his family in Wisconsin. They were making what looked like an amazing spread of Lebanese food..ooh, looked so good. And sure enough one of his sisters is a bread baker. What I enjoyed of what I saw though was the warm and humorous banter between the siblings. They seemed to love poking fun at him in particular, which he naturally took in good stride.
I heard him on Frances Lam’s Splendid Table yesterday.
I’m usually endeared by someone who shares some legit home/family life with the audience. Dude seems normal in a world of abnormalities ( or abnormaladies.)
