Tokyo - a new go-to for miso soup lovers

FYI, I’m flagrantly adding a link to a recent YouTube video, for two (possibly bad) reasons:

  1. it’s about food
  2. more importantly, I’m not sure how easily non-Japanese speakers could find this place.

It’s a Japan-first (surprisingly), called miso mebore (みそめぼれ), and it’s located in Roppongi, by the Don Quixote.

In short, they specialize in miso (soup) from each of the 47 Japanese prefectures. Some are more fermented, some less, a couple “spicy,” and others have less-expected ingredients such as barley.
Miso soup is easily one of my favorite soups, but there’s not typically much variety in it. Sure, there’s the asari (Manila clam), nodoguro (black throat sea pearch), and red miso soup from Okazaki, but miso mebore goes all in.

I only found it after searching for new eats in the Japanese websites; the woman working there said they barely had any other foreign visitors. Amusingly, it’s open until 8am the next day, as they get both the Roppongi drunks, and commuters.
