TNQ - the Northern Quarter - Manchester

Been a few years since we ate at this old favourite.
Popped in for an early tea prior to a gig and it seemed more quiet than Id ever seen it before - which gave me ‘the fear’ slightly.
Needn’t have worried - its still a safe bet. Monkfish over the table and chicken for me. A side of greens and a side of ( proper ) chips. All nicely done.
Other half also opted for a ‘Jaffa pot’ for pud - meant to be a bit Jaffa cake-y, I think. It suffered badly from only being scoffed a few days after the cremeaux at 1 York Place in Bristol. No real contest on that score - but TNQ is still a beacon of none hipness in this part of Manchester - and thus recommended.

Always reliable.

TNQ announces it’s closure, citing a “perfect storm” of increased costs - power, food, staff, taxes. Even though bookings continued to be excellent, the owners says it just isnt enough to keep going.

I’m gutted. And seriously troubled - if a place like TNQ cannot survive, you have to wonder about other independent restaurants.

Agreed - and what does is it say about the viability of actually serving fresh food ?
It looks like my ‘fear’ detector is still in working order though…
