We decided to try a place in Clarendon that’s been there for a while yet nobody seems to notice, Tiger Dumpling on Washington Blvd.
It was Arlington Restaurant Week, we found out as we were seated, and handed just the RW menu. $27 pp to have unlimited ordering from the RW menu. We asked for the regular menu but never got it, and anyway we decided to go for it and try EVERYTHING.
It was a huge array of food, and certainly was a good way to not miss a beat (or dumpling).
We had five kinds of dumplings;:
Chicken shiitake
Fish cilantro
Lamb carrot
Signature oork and shrimp
Ma La (RW special)
Starters:
Cucumber salad
Garlic pepper shredded potato
Three noodle dishes:
Dan Dan
Cold sesame
Chili Oil peanut
Vegetables:
Sweet soy lettuce
Yu choi
Meat:
Plum Ribs (RW special)
Cold soy chicken (RW special)
Brasied Pork over rice (RW special)
Fish filet strips
Everything was served as small plates, even tiny plates in some cases.
The dumplings were put through the deflavorizing machine, except for the ma la which were mildly irritating. All fillings were finely minced and packed tight.
There were two notable dishes out of this array, both of them cold: the sesame noodles and the soy chicken. Gentle but impressive flavors that stood up well. Unfortunately I think only the noodles are on the regular menu.
The rest was serviceable, but not better.
